You can. I'm not sure if it works on timer records, but for instant records you just have to press the record button again at any point (on the channel you are recording) to change the end time.

Hi Marc,

Yes this only works with instant recording. I hope that this is a new feature and not an accidental one (read: bug). And you should definitely encourage Humax to develop it. I can see where this would be very useful: in the process of recording you discover that they are running late (or later than your padding allowed), so you just add some time to the recording.

Talking of recording, another feature I would like to see is an option to choose between 1) their current instant record (from where you are in the buff to the end of program plus padding), 2) retrospective recording (like the digifusion does, but with padding), or one touch recording like a tradiational VCR (incriments of 30 mins, and possibly infinite, though this might be a problem).

UPDATE: I have discovered that with instant recordings you can add time to the recording at a later time. Example: Set it recording a channel with the record button, change channel, watch a recording, go away and make a cup of tea, and come back later and switch back to the channel. Now hit record again (I am assuming that it is still recording) and you can add some extra time.

It would be really nice if this applied to all recordings, and would surely not be diffucult to impliment, and by Marc's account already is in the beta version. This sounds good, and I hope they keep this new feature in when they release the next update.

Hello,

I'd like an option on the recording schedule for "WEEKDAY" programs. My wife records Neighbours and Home&Away Mon - Fri and with the DAILY option it means we record all manor of unwanted stuff on a Sat and Sun. I also record Time Team on a Sunday (using WEEKLY) and have had problems with it failing (because all the tuners being used by the DAILY schedule?).

For simplicity of use I also think being able to delete a prog from the guide list of recorded progs is a very good idea.

I'm I missing something, I believe that the current version of firmware allows this for instant recording?

The enhancement would be to be able to extend, timer event recordings, is this the case?

And it looks like this might be in the beta under test??

My fault I think I got confused. It must have been an instant record that I was extending the time added to the recording and I cant on a 'timer' recording. It would be nice if that could be changed. At the moment I can only add more minutes on a timer recording once its under way by adding a new one, or stop and start the current timer recording adding extra with multiple presses of the record button.

As everybody else with Chase Play, storing EPG, etc, but also would like -

some sort of indication on the front of the machine that is has actually received the remote control signal.

That would save staring at the machine whilst waiting for it to come out standby, wondering whether to press the button again, check the remote batteries, or just wait a bit longer.

Good idea, Zorric, and could perhaps be linked with my earlier suggestion of a small LED to show when the machine is actually 'on' (my family keep leaving it on instead of returning it to stand-by!).

For the next generation hummy the thing I would hope for is.
An inetegrated DVD recorder/player with an option to record direct to DVD instead of HDD.

The HDD to be made slot in so that we could have the option of buying extra HDDs as they become cheaper.

Well it has to be better than current as at least U could transfer data to DVD and edit on PC rather than the crappy USB transfer. My vote still goes for an Ethernet connectioN!

The front panel display already shows this info!?!

When its off its not illuminated.

When its in standby the standby icon is present and the clock is displayed.

When its on the channel and clock are displayed and the standby icon is not present.

I don't disagree with what you say but please try explaining this to certain members of my family - especially as they seem programmed nowadays to expect a piece of electrical equipment which is 'on' to have a coloured LED showing!

The difference between being illuminated and not is hardly noticeable. It's only just noticed if you watch it when it changes. Incidentally this also has the key to the not knowing whether it's turning on for a few seconds problem. If you look it illuminates, and the colon in the time stops flashing.

Where do you mean switched off? If you mean by the remote or front of the box it's standby not off - it still allows the remote to work and recordings to happen, at the back or by the socket is actually switching it off (IE cutting the power supply to it) - which doesn't allow the remote to work or recordings to happen. As you say other equipment shows a red light when switched off then you presumably mean standby. This is what the screen shows if it's on off or in standby:

On:

e.g. watching TV/playing a recording
The display shows the channel name (or menu/play) and time
Standby

The mode where the remote works but doesn't show anything if you turn over to SCART
The display is slightly duller than normal, only shows the time and timer icon if there is a timer.
When recording from standby it looks the same but the display is normal brightness, "REC" is lit up.
This is where you might expect a red LED to light up.
Off:

No power at all remote doesn't work
The screen obviously displays nothing as there is no power to display anything.
When you turn it on (on the front or remote) the display instantly gets brighter and the colon (between hours and minutes in the time) stops flashing. This is before the loading screen comes on the TV and L00 appears on the display, which takes a few seconds to happen, some people have complained incorrectly that there is no indication until this, when of course there really is a slight indication if you care to look.

The display on my Humax slightly brightens when it first receives a turn on command.

You can do now. Press play, use left arrow and OK or rewind and play to get back to where you'd like to record from. Press record. Stop takes you back to live. If you now press record again, you can change the recording end time.

As far as I'm concerned there is one simple meaning to switched off no power to the unit!!!

Catch-22
19-04-2006
When i get my pvr back from Humax I am going to be well happy. However a few things about my hummy are annoying so here is my top 5

1. no more lock ups
2. auto padding
3. no name changes on start time adjustment
4. no recording time lost on consecutive recordings
5. more recording slots

That's what I use the on/off switch on the back of the unit for. This seems common with other equipment that uses a remote control in that they always use some power in standby - at the very least waiting for an infra red command from a remote control.
