1 - persistent EPG - ie saved when in standby
2 - faster USB transfer (without extra hardware and s/w from phew & son_t)
3 - delete from playlist
4 - weekday recording repeat as well as 7 day
5 - increase "found" list to more than 100, or find the first 100 from now (ie don't ignore higher channel numbers if there are lots of matches)
6 - when info bar comes up using "i" button, allow scrolling through all channels (like my NTL STB does)

Strangley increased timer slots is not a priority. I only ever hit limit in enthusiastic first week of ownership (5 months ago) and have not needed it with "normal" use.

Some excellent suggestions there - I particularly like your Excel demo of a new guide screen. I would hope this wouldn't be too difficult to implement given that all the info is already there it's just being presented a bit differently (as opposed to the buffering suggestion which I would imagine would take a bit more work).

1. Include Fastforward speed @ 32X. Get rid of 64X.

2. Editing the Recording schedule - At the moment we have 'Once, daily and weekly'. Not many programmes are shown seven days a week ('daily'), so it would be best if 'daily' meant five days a week (Monday to Friday) and weekly: Sauturday and Sunday.

3. Picture in Picuture (PIP) - Allow PIP while watching a recording from playlist.

4. More than 20 timers.

Don't forget the guide and list funtions, which also have an unexplaned absence from recordings.

1. Persistent EPG - cache to disk
2. Indicators in playlist to show which programs have been watched
3. Ability to delete from playlist (red button?)
4. More information in EPG; option to suppress small picture in favour of more channels
5. Better (anti-aliased) fonts in all on-screen displays

what do you think of: http://davidegiles.googlepages.com/guideetc.xls for points 2-4? I've done some proper mock ups of how it would look but they are based on Whispers 7 channel ideal EPG so I'll probably ought to get his permission before posting them. My idea is if you show the synopsis by the side of the preview picture you could use the i button to toogle and fitted 12 channels in.

I used to have a Digifusion 200 (it died!) and some of the features it had, which are missing from the Hummy:

1. Cached EPG to save downloading same info each time turned on.
2. Folders to store programs and reduce lengthly library list.
3. Auto scene generation.
4. Reminders of programs (which automatically changes channel upon start)..
5. On viewing EPG allow option to scroll across to more than just the current and next program

Cached EPG would be nice, it takes ages to populate the EPG and worst if you start watched a recorded program before hand.

Load EPG data more quickly (and save it to disc)
Enhanced playlist (ability to delete recordings, play MP3s and slideshows)
Improve MP3 playback (minimal/no gaps, ff/rw, selectable from playlist and playback whilst recording)
Weekday/weekend timers (or individual checkboxes for each day of the week)
Don't truncate programme names when creating timers and make the name editable
I think MP3 playback should be just like playing a radio recording. And I'd love to be able to play some other formats (FLAC and Ogg spring to mind) but I understand that hardware limitations might be an issue with non-MPEG-based formats.

I could go on but I'll wait until after the next firmware update.

Now that we have chase play and padding (thank you Humax ), how about a Weekday program timer ?

i.e. An option on the recording schedule for "WEEKDAY" programs, as well as "DAILY" and "WEEKLY". My wife records Neighbours and Home&Away Mon - Fri and with the DAILY option it meant we recorded all manor of stuff on a Sat and Sun. To get round it I currently have to use five (Mon-Fri) "WEEKLY" settings.

For simplicity of use I also think being able to delete a prog from the list of recorded progs is a very good idea.

The way the EPG should look:

Main guide view - 7 channels and synopsis shown
Turn off the preview with the i button to show 12 channels
Press red for the schedule lists - which looks up the info for the next recording when you highlight the timer
Press the other colored buttons to show programmes from a particular channel (G), genres (Y), or text search (B)
The programme list would look like this but the preview would automatically play from where left off - if you press OK continue if you change recording it should go back to where it was before
When there is no video the preview screen should disappear to allow more synopsis to be shown.
Thanks to Whisper's ideal EPG shot which had the 7 channels.

Has anyone, or is anyone keeping a list of all the requests?? In other words, if not, I might do it...

I would like to see the ability to save programme searches (so you can easily go back in and search for your fave programmes), and/or the ability to record all occurances of a programme based on the title. On the same theme, not sure if it can be done with the current programme guide, but some kind of series link or something.

here's an idea, no idea if it's even remotely possible as I've not looked in the box and there may not be a spare PCI interface on the board

a lot of people have a local network set up in their home, how about a network interface for for the 9200T so that people can watch streaming tv on their PC anywhere there's a network point in their home or even over wifi using the 9200T as a local server, with capability to change channels/select recordings to play via menu's on the PC.

probably safer not to allow changes of settings via PC but setting up new recordings seem reasonable

the main tv would normally take precedence if there isn't a tuner available to watch a live broadcast, so if a recording is in progress and the pc is was being used then an override code would be needed to change the channel being viewed and you'd probably have to sacrifice PIP while the PC was being used

there would have to be a limit on the number of connections but there should be enough capacity for say the main tv to be on downstairs watching a live broadcast or a recording and someone to watch a different broadcast or recording on at least one PC elsewhere in the house

so a £10 NIC plus probably a significant software R&D effort would give a really nice product upgrade

I'd buy it

it would be best if 'daily' meant five days a week (Monday to Friday) and weekly: Sauturday and Sunday.

Weekly? perhaps 'weekend' instead.

Or howabout:

MON-FRI
SAT-SUN
MON-SUN
include a manual from/to date field.

If you change the time manually why cant you change the dates respectively? Would have thought that it would have been obvious to a programmer!

What happens if your prog is (say) Mon-Fri but the schedule changes slightly. I guess you could auto pad your way round that one. oops answered my own question there.

Howabout selective named' folders', to compile a list of playout programmes to archive.

Currently I've got to do NYPD Blue every day and copy it to a hdd for editing individually. Why cant I 'mark' and playout (say) 4 episodes in one go?

1. Facility to pan left or right (using left/right arrow keys) when viewing wide screen programme in cut-out mode on 3:4 TV.
2. Improve deleting: delete all non-protected recordings. Facility to set expiry time (as a number of weeks) for all non-protected recordings: the HDD will then be automatically cleaned up to ensure free space and a manageable recorded programmes list. This is analogous to rewinding the tape in a VCR so that old recordings can be overwritten.
3. To avoid accidentally jumping to beginning of recording by pressing Play when resuming from Pause, an alert box should appear: Do you wish to play from beginning or resume at paused position?
4. Control bar displayed during fast or slow playback obscures too much of the screen. Put it lower down and/or provide facility to hide it.
5. Improve PIP: channel list should be from whatever list is currently being used and should default to the previous channel viewed (as given by the Back button).
6. Easily reset a recorded programme to the beginning without it immediately starting to play again. At present can only be done by going to edit mode.

Or you could fast forward/move on the time bar to the very end. You are then dumped you out of the recording and next time it starts from the begining.

Thanks for the tip. I'll TRY to remember: to go to the beginning, go to the end!

Make it possible to delete a programme from the recorded programmes list rather than having to go into menu.

I've only just now scanned through this thread (OK just the first couple of pages), and there was one trate that used to really nag me with the 9200. After setting a new timer from the EPG, I'd go through the schedule entry and add manual padding. Once recorded, the playlist entry would have the wrong name in it, IE that of the previous program. Anyhow, now fixed with 1.0.6

Feature requests:

1. EPG auto-search (Sky style season pass). Being able to set-up search entries, where any time the search criteria is matched in the EPG (title or synopsis), the program gets recorded. I believe the Topfield can do this via a TAP.

2. The repeat feature should operate a bit like an old VHS recorder I had years ago with options as follows: Repeat daily, Repeat weekly. In repeat weekly, you could then tick or un-tick any of the 7 days of the week. Simple really, and gives good flexibility needed given there's only 20 timers.

3. Better EPG. I very briefly had a cheap PVR from Aldi. One thing I really liked about it though, was that you could choose planner view (as it currently is), and listing view, where you viewed one channel at a time, and can scroll up / down.

4. For planner view in the EPG (the EPG style it current has), have more on the screen at once (at least as an option), and show the synopsis in the top section of the screen for the currently highlighted program and changes instantly as you move around the guide (ditch the picture insert). This is pretty much how the Echostar T101+ works.

5. Be able to leave it in stand-by, and have it work properly. So for instance, the EPG will remain filled, and timers will work correctly, won't crash etc. I realise it will still have come up now and then to support feature 1 in my list, and to keep the EPG topped up.

All of the above would make this PVR perfect in my view.

Best Regards,
Toonie.

haven't been playing around with it that much as I've only just got it but:

1. a better USB link - also software for different platforms other than Windows (i.e. Linux, Mac) to take the recordings off the 9200t
2. The ability to delete the recording I've just watched from the list of recordings to play.
3. When in the list of recordings (either from the menu or from the list to select play) I'd like to be able to press the info button and get the programme synopsis (as you can when you're watching the programme)
4. Improved editing screen
5. When starting a recording, I'd like to mark it as a weekly event without having to go to the menu, Recordings, Schedule, edit

Of course this list is subject to change, but this is a great little box none the less.
