If Humax keep this ch screen on this page, then you can't show more channels. And it is not pip, that means a picture inside another picture! I would prefer more channels showing, I don't need to see what is on the current channel whilst in the EPG.
BTW any screen that shows different content within another screen, whether it be EPG or TV is PIP in my book! |

Hi Grannygrunt
I would be surprised/disappointed if Humax made any fundamental/major changes to the EPG (or other functions/features) as that would proberly upset/anger as many or more people than it pleased. In addition to fixing known bugs, I hope Humax make some minor changes and add more user preference options to make the unit even easier to use. If you really need/want to make changes to the EPG and other functions/features you should have bought a Toppy! |

Personally I'd be happy to see something like this, with 7 channels listed.
http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/whisper/Ideal.jpg The only problem will be truncated channel names. Derek S - Perhaps we should use the term PIG i.e. Picture in Guide! |

Hi Wisper
That looks good to me but would be even better if the coloured ‘buttons’ and text was moved and displayed as a column in the top centre, as this should allow at least one extra row to be displayed (Edit - or the use of bigger font). A final touch would be to display the day (e.g Mon) before the short date. What do you think Derek and Grannygrunt? Last edited by RJD : 13-11-2005 at 13:46. |

Having just migrated from a dreadful Sagem 6240 after 6 months, I'm only too happy to have a reliable useable box at all!

Remote Control?
How are folks getting on with the remote? I don't (yet) own the '9200 simply because the remote seems like such a backwards step from the previous generation. The buttons are quite small, some of the functions seem to need multiple button presses, and the lack of control for the TV is just horrible. Previous Humax remotes have been an ergonomic joy (aside from that Mickey Mouse "i" button!).
Am I the only person thinking that the remote should be high on the top 5 gripes list? Mark |

Hi Mark
I think you will find this is a wish list thread, not a gripes list! How do you know that you don’t like the Humax remote if you don’t own one yet? Coming from a Fusion 150, I am more than happy with the Humax remote and it stands up well against all my other remotes, none of which are perfect. If this is all that is stopping you buying a 9200T, you could buy a universal remote from say the One For All range. |

Grannygrunt - This is the 9200's EPG. All I've done is doctored it in paint shop pro by changing the rows to a single line (channel number and name on a single line) and added 3 more lines with the space that it freed up.
As I stated earlier, I think the reason Humax used two lines per row is so that the channel name wasn't truncated. RJD - Tradionally the coloured buttons are at the bottom of the screen on most on-screen graphics (STB or Teletext/BBCi). I think moving these would require the same on every screen for consistancy. More than a simple task. If the time at the top right was moved to the left and the screen moved up, then perhaps an 8th row could be squeezed in. |

After weeks of satisfied use, my improvements are
1) Increase timers 100+ and/or introduce "passport" recordings a) Passport - where I can set it to record say "eastenders" and it would every occurrence of eastenders on the EPG, continually until I stop it. I do think passport recordings are important and cannot understand why more PVR's don't incorporate it. Repeats can then be deleted manually. b) Recording frequency - if they Humax cannot do passport recording then we need options to record Daily, Weekday, Weekend, Weekly 2) Recording padding a) allow automated or manual prior & post programme padding. b) retain the programme name or give the option of assigning a name from the EPG. 3) Upgrade EPG a) make it more user friendly. It's very clunky navigating because you have to use too many keys b) it's difficult shifting day+ or day- unless by the time bar. c) As everyone has said it needs more than 4 channels displayed. d) Display day of the week, eg Mon, Tues etc + date 4) Recorded list (3rd button under cover) - this is very good, but you should be able to manage the recordings in the same way as the same functions under the menu button, eg. delete, edit, play etc 5) Slow EPG population - I know this isn't the fault of the Humax and I know they are addressing it. However if everyone has set the software update option for overnight (eg. menu, then software update) then it could populate the EPG at this time and save it to the hard drive or eeprom. 6) Buffers - with twin tuners it should be able to retain the buffers on the initial channel, before we start channel surfing. So it needs better management of the twin buffers and this would mean it wouldn't loose all buffers when a recording started. |

I'd like to be sure that this would not cause recording conflict issues ie 2 recordings programmed and a third legitimate programme being denied because it is padded to start 5 mins before the others complete, or programmed to start on time but conflicting with the other 2, padded to finish 5 mins late. My previous Sagem forced padding both ends preventing back to back recordings without considerable painful work arounds. This weekends Sagem OAD has Sagem owners screaming because auto padding has not been disabled! Be careful what you wish for - it might come true! It's a tricky one that needs thinking through. |

Good call Derek
However with twin tuners it would only be a problem if there was a conflict with 2 recordings at the same time and then a simple screen message would display the conflict. It does it already when trying to record 3 programmes at the same time. |

1. Ability to 'surf' the EPG from the now & next bar like most other set top boxes - i.e. being able to see what's on other channels at different times rather than having to open the whole EPG.
2. Cache EPG on hard drive. 3. Show the day of the week in the EPG rather than the date. ("Monday" rather than the 14th). Those are the only problems I have! I'd really love 1 and 2 though

Just got the 9200T on Friday, and its fantastic, but my 4 gripes are:
1. Autopadding - obviously this would be a prefererred padding, so only if it doesn't cause clashes when recording two programmes back to back with a third. 2. Keep prog name in schedule when padding recording - also keep 'reserved' icon in EPG (currently gets lost as soon as you pad) 3. EPG store on disk ! 4. Limit of 20 reserved Progs - should be 100 ! 5. smart scheduling - ie record all programs called 'eastenders' etc unless it clashes with other reservations, other people call this passport ! |

Assuming that the actual defects have been fixed (names of recordings, in particular!), the things that I'd like to see worked upon are:
1) Persistent EPG (the current functionality is a step back from the 8000T and irritates the wife) 2) Make the program display ("PIP") in the EPG optional, fitting in more channels if it is not displayed 3) Autopadding of recordings (user-configurable). If it results in a clash then one can always do a manual edit to remove the padding. 4) I'm going to side with Ian-UK on the idea of having the day of the week shown on the EPG as well as the date. 5) More timer slots (why limit the number?) |

here is my wish list
1) Chase play on recordings 2) Auto padding of recordings 3) Configurable playback order of mp3. I am surprised nobody seems to have mentioned this yet after all the complaints of the 5Gb limit on mp3s (which seems OK to me). Tracks are played back in the order the are uploaded - some way of changing this would be really useful 4) More timer slots 5) store epg on standby |

Wish List
1 - Auto-Padding whilst maintaining programme name that is contained within timer envelope (rather than naming it after the tail end of previous program).
2 - Chase Play (that is to be able to watch a recording in progress) 3 - Stored EPG to be updated on user command. 4 - Renaming or maintaining name of program on weekly/daily repeat recording schedule, before it records, rather than just having a time and channel in schedule. 5 - More timers |

Have had the Humax for a while now and am basically very pleased with it - especially build quality and quietness. But .....
1. Ability to store EPG on hard disc - mine takes 9-11 minutes to populate from standby; this makes the box 'not fit for purpose' in my view. 2. Autopadding front and back, with user selected times. I lose the beginning of EVERY programme when I use auto-record from the EPG 3. Make the epg easier to use: - increase the amount of the screen available for programme information (I'm with Grannygrunt on not needing the PIP during EPG, but would settle for having a user option) - improve manipulation when working thro' several days-worth of EPG - show the day as well as date 4. Ability to view a programme whilst recording 5. Better control of TV through the remote. (I find I have to have the volume on the remote set to max and then when we use the TV for anything else, it is deafening - altho' I may not yet have worked this out properly) BUT whatever changes are made, make sure they do not affect the quiet running of the box. 1. More Channels on EPG Page. (retaining PIG) plus easier navigation eg Red -1 Day, Green +1 Day, Rew -2Hrs, FF +2Hrs, (Enter group Via List button) would obviate using Time bar
2. Chasing Playback 3. More Timers and option to pad recordings 4. Retain Name on repeating recordings. Record all episodes of series option. 5. Add Play to Delete Edit Cancel options on recorded programs info screen (or Play from beginning if watched) |
