having owned a thomson dhd4000 for over a year i have recently purchased a hummy due to it having a larger disc memory. having read the instructions and looking through the forums 1 benefit that the could do with that the thomson has is the ability to buffer backwards on selected channel.
if for example i was watching an episode of "whatever" i could press record and so long as the channel was selected prior to program start, the whole program would be taped.
the buffer allowed up to 90 mins pre-record.

i may be barking up the wrong tree, the humax 9200t may have this feature....but i cant find it yet!!!

at the moment the software is at version 8.

regards
paul

Either rewind the buffer, or press play then use the arrows and OK button to get to the start of the programme. Then press record! It will record from this point to the end of the programme. Just a different way of implementing this feature I suppose.

1) 32x search
2) 32x search
3) 32x search
4) 32x search
5) Ability to change channel names such that, for example, Channel 4 doesn't show up as 'channel' but can be programmed as say, C4. This may be in already but haven't realised

Not having the ability to walk through minutes instead of mere seconds (16x) or chunks of a recording (64x) is pointless.

2x = 2^1
4x = 2^2
16x = 2^4
64x = 2^6

Surely we can have 2^5 = 32x

I hope they put a topup card slot without the need for a cam as standard on any new models before i buy one, as i hope to switch off my old skybox and move to humax for satanta freeview start up for the premiership.

Agreed! But the functionality requests should be useful to Humax (and others) for future development regardless and thus not entirely wasted.

i would like to see a way of stacking up the recordigs to be played. This would be handy for short half hour episodes that could be scheduled to run one after another.

Also beig able to join two recordings together. very handy for films that continue after the news

This should be in the OTA transmition of the next new version of the software

I'd like:
the find function to carry out more flexible generic searches and for the genre list to include more types of programmes like documentaries.

More channels shwing on epg (six would be useful).

Renumbering of channels.

Changing channel name facility.

PDC facility for automatic responses to time delays.

The use in future models of more colours on LED display especially when recording.

Dimming adjustment for LEDS.

Easier saving of time-shifts.

Indication of hard drive remaining record time (rather than vague percentages).

Improvement to delays in epg loading time.

More intuitive record daily / weekly menu option.

Quieter fan.

One touch subtitles (without pointlessly approving language option each time).

That would be difficult, as different channels use different bit rates.

and it can be more flexible, if you simply press record and it takes the current programme from the buffer (like the thompson and fusion models) what happens if you want a recording further into the buffer.

Yes' I've found it useful to record programmes which have long since finished that way.

It could use an average bitrate to calculate time?

Like other owners I would like to have a line underneath reservations in the Guide (simular to what the Pace Twin has)

One I wouldn't mind seeing is a setting for the front panel display, show channel name/time, channel number/time or just channel name, low priority and more of a novelty really?

PDC or Videoplus facility would be very usefull
Dimming of LED display (very Bright)
Otherwise there is not much wrong with this machine !!!!!!

1. Better Media e-Linker software to also allow copying of .TS files from PC to HUMAX - most of us have loads of video files on the PC that would be much better to watch from the HUMAX. I have converted .avi to .ts, but can't get them onto the box !!!

2. Options to change the screen layout of the EPG. The use of screen real estate is OK for a small screen (up to 28" say), but if you have a 40+" screen you could fit loads more in the EPG than the measly 4 channels and a 2 hour slot.

3. 32x FF/REV

4. After 1. has been addressed, how about an actual ethernet port or wireless connection, so you don't have to mess around copying video/music/jpeg files back and forth. All your media could in fact then live on your HUMAX, music and all.

5. Sort out the horribly slow loading of jpegs in the image viewer !

I haven't managed to read everyone else's threads, but my main requests are:

1. increase the number of results in the search facility beyond 100 (eg 1000 would be great). I like to search on genre "movies" each week and I know that lots of the films on channels such as film4 fall off the list

2. find a method of faster populating of the programme guide (eg storing to disk as other people have suggested)

3. bring in a x32 forward/rewind. x64 is just too fast, x16 not quite fast enough

4. maybe manage the buffer recording a bit differently. Eg perhaps it could simply not clear the buffer when you change channel and then just let you rewind back through whatever you happened to have had on display

5. Any chance of changing the compression/storage algorithm to save twice as much programming on the hard disk? (is it possible to add extra disk space?)

The 2 best things they've done so far are the auto-padding of recording times and the chase play of current recordings. Also nice to know that >20 scheduled recordings and Mon-Fri recording is on the way. Overall I think it's a fantastic box. I could not imagine going back to just having a TV (even with digibox) and video again.

I have to admit that despite being quite adept with the PC and with gadgets, I would not consider doing a manual download i.e. I will have to wait for the OTA update. It's a bit disappointing that there hasn't been one since May (still on 1.00.06)
Mark.

Actually, I've got an interesting idea which is more cosmetic than anything else.

I quite like the way of accessing programmes on the TUTV Anytime box - in the EPG press the "TUTV" button on the remote and there they are.

Would it be possible for a feature to be implemented whereby when you press "List" when in the EPG, it gives you your list of recorded programmes sorted by channel, in a kind of EPG but without the date/time?

Why on earth not - it is SOOOOO easy and the benefits speak for themselves. Seriously - as long as you buy the right cable you can't go wrong.

Two questions: if you're watching a programme and re-wind to the beginning and press Record, can you fast forward to where you left off again, with the Humax recording what's in its buffer? Or do you have to watch it through again at normal speed while it records?

2nd question (OK, third) In relation to the TUTV card, I've seen people referring to a 'cam' - what is this?

Thanks

Yes you cam record & then skip back and forward as you want.

CAM - Conditional Access Module - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conditional_access_module - its a PC card sized device that fits into the slot on the Humax (or a digital TV) that then takes the subscription card (which looks like a chip & pin style credit card). You're top dog! Thanks for the quick reply and the links. Having read the first one on Top Up TV, I'm still not entirely clear whether Setanta Sports (carrying the Premiership soon?) is going to be available on our humble hummy with a cam in place; or whether we'd need to buy this new expensive PVR. Which, obviously, is not an option.

What's your take on it?

Glad you found the info useful, Keith! I'm not certain but my impression was that Setanta would be available via card/CAM. I would have thought that they'd be keen to appeal to as large as audience as possible and to restrict themselves to only customers with the new TUTV PVR seems a bit too limiting to me.

I agree - they'd be stupid to have paid all that money (presumably) for Premiership coverage and then not have as wide a market as possible for the service.

I guess we wait and see, then, and watch out for some sparkly adverts on TV when they start selling the cams and the cards!

I have asked the question about the cam to Humax. I sent the email to sales originally but they have at least replied and i have asked support a few questions which i will post if i get a reply.
