I've had the Humax for about 6 weeks now and have been really happy with it, but definitely a few new features would be great.
1. Chase play 2. Configurable auto-padding for start and end (independent values for each) of recordings 3. Saving of EPG to hard disk with auto update each day 4. Don't clear buffer when changing channels 5. Keyword searches for automatic recording Smaller text in EPG so you can see more information 6. Sort EPG search results by date/time, not channel |

Since buying my 9200t in October, I find I rarely watch live TV (except for the News). I use the PVR to record programmes to watch when I want, rather than when they are broadcast. I always have about 50 recordings to choose from, so I'm never short of something to watch.
For this reason, I would put chase-play in the nice-but-not-essential category. My top 5 wish list mainly relates to ease of recording and playback:

At least 100 timers.
If I schedule a recording using the EPG, make sure all of it is recorded! This could be as simple as providing automatic padding, but something smarter based on the now-and-next information should be possible (e.g. don't stop recording until the now-and-next changes, unless this will prevent another recording from starting).
More functionality to navigate the recordings list. E.g. sort list alphabetically, by genre, by length, etc. as well as by date.
Make it easier to delete recordings. E.g. when you stop a recording, pop up a box asking if you want to delete it.
Don't lose the EPG when in standby.
|

In fact the current EPG based Humax schdule would start and stop at exactly the same times as it does now even if it could detect those now and next changes. It would take a change of policy in the way the now and next changes are handled by the broadcasters before it would be worth implementing any programming changes to the PVR to recognise these. Padding is the only solution until something is added to Freeview signal for the purpose of switching on and off (and hopefully not switching off when the following progamme is wanted too! |

Well the EPG system is automated but I can't see why the PDC analogue signal could be tapped into and utilised for a Freeview system. In its present form it'll soon be redundant so there won't be any point in sending analogue switches after the transmitters have been turned off anymore unless it is given a new use.
Maybe no one's thought of it so hopefully they'll read this and say, shouldn't be too difficult to implement and wouldn't require anything extra from the broadcasters either as they already send the required signal. And then get on and do it!

Top Five Wishes
1. Auto-pad recordings so you don't loose the start or end of programs.
2. Remove the small screen in top right of the EPG so that more channels can be seen. 3. 32x FF & RW the jump from16x to 64x is too big. 4. Save the EPG to the hard disk. 5. Chase Play of recorded programme. |

32x FF & RW the jump from 11x to 180x is too big. If we really had 16x and 64x as stated it might be OK (by all means keep 180x as well.) |

No. 453. Trashcan, like Windows(TM). When a recording is 'deleted' it is moved to a different menu until such time as the space it occupies on the disc is actually overwritten.
At least then I'd have a chance of knowing if that programme I don't have was the PVR's fault for not recording it, mine for not reserving it, or mine for deleting it by mistake (because I still have last week's ).

My top 5:
*Chase play *At least 50 timers instead of 20 *Being able to dual record and watch any third channel *Quicker loading or permanent saving of the EPG *Easier and quicker way of being able to record programs, similar to videoplus? This way if program is delayed or moved to a later time it will track the program and still record and you will never miss the ending. |

*Quicker loading or permanent saving of the EPG I take it you mean PDC and not VideoPlus. VideoPlus is only a way of programming Date, Start and Stop times via a simple numeric code. If 'Now and Next' always followed the Program times exactly then it may be possible for something equivalent to PDC to be implemented but as the 'Now and Next' often varies between broadcasters just as PDC has never been properly adopted by all broadcasters on analogue the better option is to pad the recordings, preferably an optional to automatically pad.*Easier and quicker way of being able to record programs, similar to videoplus? This way if program is delayed or moved to a later time it will track the program and still record and you will never miss the ending. As for tracking a program if the time is changed altogether, then an option to record any program by name rather than time would need to be implemented. |

1) 'Proper' chase play
2) More than 20 timer slots 3) Radio programmes saved as MP3s 4) Improved remote with volume/power/input control for major TV brands. 5) Easier transfer of programmes to PC (ie standard file structure for a USB slave drive) with a proper implementation to transfer programmes to the Humax (e.g. So I can put slide shows or DVD's onto the hard drive) |

Top 5
I'm really happy with my Humax. However, I think it would really benefit from the following:

True Chase Play (watch a program while it is being recorded)
Auto padding (start/end) of recording
Save EPG while in standby
More timers
I know this is only a top 4, but I'd be extremely happy with just these. |

I've already posted my top 5, so I won't give another list
, but I'm surprised to see so few people suggesting a better thought out way of archiving. On the 9200T, archiving is very much a manual process. While you are archiving, you cannot use the box for anything else, and you have to be careful not to do anything that puts a pop-up on the screen, as this will be faithfully included in your archived recording. It should be possible to ask the PVR to start playing a list of recordings at a specific time (e.g. 3 o'clock in the morning). Then, you just have to set your VCR or DVD recorder to start recording at 2:59, and next morning your archiving will be done. This is definitely one area where the Inverto 7000T beats the Humax. |

I agree, I thought 160gb would be ample but I'm frantically trying to copy stuff to VHS to free up room for recordings over xmas - setting it running before I go to bed and before I leave for work etc - having checked no recordings are scheduled to avoid any silly pop up messages - I wish there was an option to turn those off! 1. PDC (I know Humax aren’t responsible for this, but they need to exert some influence on those who are). As an interim measure: Customisable autopadding.
2. Improve EPG: Save to hard drive, show more information (like Whisper’s version (http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/whisper/Ideal.jpg), maybe with smaller (or even changeable) font size and option to remove preview screen), include day of week. 3. Automatic search & reserve favourite programmes by keyword. 4. 50-100 timers. 5. Sort recorded programmes by date, genre or user-defined categories. 6. More genre categories, e.g. music. |

I would like to have automatic padding. At the moment I manually add 1 min at the beginning and 5 min at the end.
There would not be this problem of course if television stations managed to run to time. There doesn't seem to be the same problems with radio stations. Because of the manual padding my recordings all show the title of the previous programme. I would like to have the programme title extracted about 5mins after the recording has started and not right at the beginning. Some improvement of the EPG is needed. I get frustrated waiting for it to become populated when I switch on to set up some recordings. |
