Not sure if we're still soliciting more top 5's after the recent "all time top 10"

.......
My Top 5 for the current '9200 is heavily influenced by my 80+ year old mum, who generally loves her box, but is hacked off by a few "idiosyncrasies"(!). It's pretty sad to recognise it, but the 20/30-somethings who design hi-tech aren't hugely sensitive to the challenges facing older folks. The '9200 is basically a damn fine piece of kit but still has some scope for ergonomic improvement.....
1) Why do the programme names in the (main) recording list appear in faded text (which difficult to read)? All the other text on this screen is solid, and therefore very clear.
2) The recording list screen is the intuitive place to manage playback from, so why can't recordings also be DELETED from here? Especially after you've just finished watching a recording? (Actually the whole programme replay/management system seems bit under-developed...)
3) The remote control is generally reasonable, but could be better. The "i" button has been criticised on various Humax products for being too small and in a crazy place, so why make this same mistake YET AGAIN?!?!?!? There's scope generally for improvements in ergonomics & tactility (i.e. buttons too small; the dreaded hatch/cover; lack of button surface texturing so that you can't "feel" your way easily around the remote; lack of any feedback when certin critical buttons are pressed, etc. (I doubt we are the only family that wonders whether we've actually hit the power-on button correctly in the dreaded 5 seconds where nothing seems to happen?) Also, placing the volume control back in the '9200, rather than having the remote control the TV volume directly is just the cowards way out, and a real retrograde step over previous generation Humax's (i.e. rubbish!). Our whole family currently dreads the potential shock of going back to a main TV channel where the volume is 20dB or more louder than an attenuated '9200.... (If you're going to control volume at all then do it on the amp and NOT on the external box. Line-level standards exist for a reason.....)
4) EPG population...... Sigh. Did Humax learn nothing from their first-gen products? Actually this one REALLY bugs me, and makes me think that their engineering group is, at least, one level too far removed from the market. The '8000 was a damn fine piece of kit and a PERFECT starting point for a KILLER 2nd-gen machine. The market screamed about the pros and cons of the previous boxes, but did Humax listen? Apparently not.......
5) Recording time accuracy. OK, I know this isn't really Humax' fault, but we are simply fed up with missing the last minute of various programmes (espcially BBC2!!!). Autopadding would be a step in the right direction, but isn't there something better????
I could go on, but others have nailed the more subtle issues. The above are the SERIOUS gripes for us. We completely love our two boxes, but feel very frustrated that what could be near-perfect still has more than a few stupid quirks......
