Selection idea for next years BB
Alrightmate
09-07-2002
A lot of people are really disappointed with the selection of contestants this year.

Well, you know how the slogan is "You decide" when it comes to choosing who gets evicted.

Well why don't they set something up where WE decide who goes into the house in the first place.

All they'd need to do, is create a shortlist of people who they've checked out for mental stability, criminal records etc.

They could put that shortlist online, and we could choose the people we want from, say the top 50 contenders.

They could run shows on Channel 4 leading up to the launch of BB4, showing the audtion tapes, maybe five per show. They could leave a number for us to vote.

It would be good for them too, because of the increased revenue from the phone calls.

Would this be better?
Would it work?

p.s. Can anybody tell me if it was Endemol who were the production team for the last two BB's?

Just something I've been wanting to know for a while.

It's a really good idea, but there are a couple of problems

1. The auditions tapes might be fantastic but the reality might a lot less interesting e.g. Sophie's audition tape was the best of the current crop, and yet she was rather dull in the house (much more interesting since she came out!)

2. You'd have to put all the candidates together on a single show, otherwise those on the more watched shows would be at a significant advantage.

1. Yes, that's very true, we still wouldn't know for sure. But I think Sophie had obvious problems with the fact that nobody made an effort with her. I'm sure it would have turned out a bit different if she was there from the start.

But you have to admit, that we sort of knew that some of them were bad choices from their audition tapes, the producers just didn't seem to have a clue at all.
They got all the wannabe's that they said wouldn't get on to the show.

2. When you said more watched, did you mean to say most recent programmmes?

If that's what you meant, then yeah, it would be tricky, because some of them would be fresher in the memory.
Maybe there could be a way of doing it.

I'm sure that someone could find a format of some kind where we could make the choices.
Don't forget, if people have cable, they could select potential contestents at random, at any time they wanted to see somebodys audition tape.

12 monkeys would be more fun to watch than this years selection.

Maybe they should mix and match some past contenstants.

BB4 could be 3 from BB1 , 3 from BB2, 3 from BB3 and 3 new guys.

Interesting... but not likely to happen.

One problem is, you can't try too hard with the constantants. If they try to hard to create "situations" with personalitys, that could end in a mess.

superb idea Alrightmate! i love it! what i think would be a load of fun is that the potential HMs would have a period of time where they could drum up public support for their cause. this way we would see more of their true colours before they get interned into the pressure cooker that is BB... i'd see each potential BB mounting campaigns around several key topics, e.g. the most likely to shag, the funniest, the most bitchy, etc., etc.. give them a week, stick the information on tv and the web, and then have a selection evening. all 50 candidates, in a room while the public vote - stick a real time graphic up that shows their share of the vote and let the potential HMs spin for votes! awesome, i'd watch something like that.
