As I was always told as a child - and still adhere to today, it costs nothing to be polite.

Not one of the housemates had the first clue while Alex was waiting. Not even Timmy who I believe is supposed to have manners

Thats a sad reflection on you fatherjack. What do you do - let the doors slam shut on the women struggling with shopping and/or kiddies trying to get through them

Shame on you.

LK - likes nice manners

It has been known for me to let the door slam shut, usually after some ignorant fem has done just that to me! my kids have immaculate manners, ( testimony from strangers) and I bring them up that way but in my experience, women really are pig ignorant in this issue, of course not all women but a hell of a lot of them. In my experience, men are far more likely to hold doors open for me than women. I have to admit to taking joy in a crowded area after a woman has just walked through a door without doing 'the honours' .Shouting 'thank you' as loud as I can to her, heads turn, so does hers, cheeks flush, head bows, walks off in disgrace! I love it!
as for women beibng gullible (another post) read your psychology books, why do you think so much advertising is aimed at women now that they have more disposable income?
Im not really as much of a pig as I sound but if women want to behave like a******s they shall be treated accordingly.
and another thing, did somebody mention manners and the french in the same post? I am convinced there are two worlds, the real and ....here!

ever the misogynist eh.

The whole point of this thread was about Alex and his manners. Regardless of whether people see him as a wingeing, moaning git etc you have got to hand it to him in the manners department and good on him.

I dont have to hand it to him at all, last week he was professing everlasting love for adele and now he wants to make everlasting tactical love to kate. he even threw a pretendy tantrum when drunk in front of the mirror, to tell us his bad behaviour is down to the alcohol! when men are good mannered, they are usually after something (Im a man, I know) alex has sussed out that a lot (if not the majority )of voters are women, PJ and Jonny are base, Tim has nothing, therefore alex turns on the charm! and dont we all to get a woman into bed! why? because it works. It makes me cringe when I see this behaviour, not because of the man but the efect it has on women, easy or what?
I am not a mysogenist, I am a realist, I havent got my head up my backside, I can see alex is playing to a formula.

I don't mean to be rude. But I feel very sorry for you.
Why are you so bitter?

My partner is well mannered, supportive, nice, actually LIKES women, as do all my male friends.

I guess we just live in different worlds fatherjack

LK - is glad she lives in a different world than you

Had to edit this cos I had repeated myself . I guess I just like well mannered men !

read the post again LK and get it into context it was written, i.e. alex and HIS manners!. I am well mannered, very supportive 0f my wife and kids. alex's 'manners' are ...convenient! £70k on the horizon and mine would maybe the same.
Im not bitter and dont be sorry for me...and I really do like women, in many respects (not the obvious) more so than men.

heheheh

Alex and the furtive glances to the cameras "I (h)am waiting for Jonny" stunt. Unbelievable? Well, falling over the back of the chair was another: sometimes he does things solely for the effect by the look of it ... sometimes he is just having fun ...
... he's a real chancer by all accounts...

This has become my usual practice towards anyone who swans through a door that I have held open for them, without them acknowledging it. However, I still open doors and offer seats on buses etc for anyone and my children also do. And I certainly wouldn't let a door slam in someones face.
In my experience the elderly are the worst offenders for not acknowledging a polite act from someone else. And they complain about the rudeness of the young!

Disabled, war wounded, pregnant women etc. don't know if it still happens, but last time I was in Paris people did take notice

100% here as well. I was brought up in a Southern English working class home and taught to wait for everyone to be served before starting to eat, don't talk with your mouth full, keep your mouth closed while eating, don't lick the knife and don't leave the table until excused by the host. I now live in Scotland and can confirm that all my friends that I have eaten with appear to have the same ideas of politeness.

But it's a real b*mmer when your dinner's getting cold!
