Sony editting incorrect positions

Has anyone noticed this problem.-

When creating a playlist I would pause and slo mo to get the correct OUT point. When the start of the next scene is found I press pause then press back until I am back in the end of the wanted scene I then go about four more presses (frames!) back into the wanted scene. Then one press (frame) forward in the direction of the scene, I do this extra press as I have noticed when pressing OK the scene jumps back slightly and I would rather the jump stay in the wanted scene.

PROBLEM IS .- I am starting to get an inacurate OUT point (and probably IN) often this point does jump a little into the next scene. This makes for a very unprofessional result.

I think when the HDD was nearly empty I didn't have the problem...I don't seem to remember it.

Now the HDD is nearly full (30 out of 33 hrs SP used), it is a Sony RDR-HX510 which has a 80GB HDD.

I can play the editted PLAYLIST scene on the HDD without seeing any problems, then dub it to DVD+R and then see all the brief jumps into the next scene at my editting points

I think I'll have to start deleting things to give the HDD a bit of breathing space and see if my joins improve.

I know I haven't got a professional editing machine here....
I am still very pleased with it.

I don't suppose a DVD-R be any better ???

ps.
I have just looked at this and I'll be amazed if anyone understands it.....You'll have to be here to see what I am going on about!!!!

I understand it perfectly! When dubbing to DVD are you using fast mode or 'real time'? When a title has been editied it is recommended that you use 'real time' to dub. If fast mode is used you can get some inperfections. I have a Sony RDR-HX510 too.

Thank you for the advice.

I am kicking myself as I have started to delete things from my HDD and the first to go was my last editting fiasco.

As it WAS dubbed in FAST - it would have been good to have tried real time and compared.

I have never changed the default of FAST dubbing when copying up from HDD to DVD.
I had noticed that dubbing from DVD to HDD could only be in real time (couldn't really miss that as 3hrs. is a looong time). So if copying down from HDD in real time means it's perfect I am going to do that for copying back up to DVD.

I can't wait to try it.

Cheers again

I have the HX-900 which does the same. Both the HDD and the DVD- (VR mode) give frame accurate edits. Unfortunately, some of the frames are masked off and invisible, but they are still there.

During a fast dub, The masking effect is lost and the fragments of an edit reappear. If you edit a DVD+ title, the same thing happens on the actual disc because there is no masking off effect. The secret here is to chop off a bit more than you need (about 10 frames) in the hope that you will hit the right spot.

When I first had mine back in February, I had such fun trying to work out exact edit points on DVD+. My hair has now grown back...
