Lighten Up, Its Only a Soap
That is the reply anyone who questions the recent storylines in EE always gets.
Does it matter that the Bookies and the Vic are run without licences. No CCTV system records sound. The ownership of the Vic is passed around with no legal right. Jake not only walks around free although he assisted a murderer to escape happily handing out money that was obtained fraudently and is not even his. (By the way why were the Mitchell brothers never after him).Tracey gave Chrissie a false alibi but why should the police care. People get money from nowhere, one minute they are desparate next not worried, the Millers, Ian, the Mitchells. Judging from most of the posters on the EE threads it is not just a soap but almost a religous experience which is always perfection. EE is the flag ship programme of the BBC a public broadcasting servcice that demands an annual fee from us all because of just that, it is a public broadcasting service. I would feel happier if they remembered that and made EE more realistic and legally accurate. |

Once again it's nice to see that someone is thinking and reasoning before posting. Occasional blips may be excusable, but Soaps have both researchers and archivists who should be checking these things. If they don't then the characters are mere pawns in the story lines with no real depth to them
Having said all that I give it three minutes before the thread is descended on.... |

Good post. Something I have been wondering about is what has happened to Chrissie's solicitor pal (was her name Amanda?) who signed the deeds to the Vic? Surely the police would have to question her and she would not be able to keep her job because she lied about seeing Den sign the deeds.

Imogen, you have a great point, I agree.
But no doubt some idiotic bashing posts will turn up in a few minutes... |

Though I do agree with alot of the post. I wouldn't blame anyone if those who came in to ruin the posts made constructive comments in reponse |

Well that maybe the way it is, but unconstructive posts that aren't a reply to anything are a waste of time more often than not, irrespective of where they come from.

But the title is called "Lighten up it's only a soap." It is only a soap and things are not always right in them. Lets be honestif things were alays right no one would watch them as it would be as boring as real life wouldn't it?

Not necessarily. Keeping a logical sense to things should be necessary to any program, Soap or not. You can show something that keep vague consistencies and yet still has hightened drama. It just looks like lazy story telling.
Further soaps are all about history and getting used to characters. If their backgrounds are constantly changing then it detracts from the nature of Soap and getting tied up in people's lives |
