----------------------------------------------------------------------------
5. Andy - Good, but I think he went out of tune in places.
6. Nicholas - Predictable song choice, but sang well.
7. The Conway Sisters - I thought they were better last week! Poor song choice!

I refuse to get drawn into a petty arguement, but Shayne was not out of tune at any stage of the song. It is stupid to even suggest that.

Journey South - I liked it not as good as last week but still good. Not my fave BJ song but they did a good version of it. Carl did look a bit frightened though. Bless im!!!
Andy- Love this song thought he sang it well but nowhere near as good as BTM
Shayne - I enjoyed the performance but think he was carried a bit by the backing track.
Maria- Didn't like this performance. A bit shouty.
Brenda- Kinda washed over me. I think it was the wrong song.
Nicolas - It was a bit predictable but he sang it well.
Chico- Eeeek stick to dancing and entertaining love, singing is deffinatly not Chico's strong point. Also with all that wind and smoke it was as cheesy as my dad's feet!!!
Conways - zzzzzz sorry fell asleep!!!
Oh Brother...

First of all I'd personally say a remarkably good show for this type in UK - as a major fan of US Idol I think this show ranked alongside it. A difficult show to separate 7 of the 8 but, for me, an easy show to pick out the weakest.

1= Maria - She has the versatility and commercial quality to be an outstanding performer. As for Simon thinking that wasn't raunchy - what planet is he on!

1= JS - Also taking on difficult stuff and performing it well. Nice guitar solo.

3 Shayne - Much improved and good demo of all-round talent although I did think the arrangement, backing vocals & dancers helped the overall look of his performance. They should all perform out there on their own.

4 Andy - Started off a bit ordinary for me, but he certainly pulled it around. Not sure about song choice though.

5= Brenda - Well polished but I tend to agree with Simon, I don't think she'll be very commercial - there's plenty of good acts like her as far as what we've seen is concerned. But also agree with Louis, I think she's shown grit and has really put a lot into it and it's not really fair for the judges to bring up the commercial bit as things stand.

5= Conways - Wow a major improvement and much better song choice FOR THEM. Better start listening to them a bit more Simon old chap.

7 Chico - But position here is a bit unfair because I think all the above were outstanding. Simon was unfair to him because I think he surprised a few folk and although I'd agree it's a bit out of character for him, well done pal.

8 Nicholas - Lucky I even bothered to mention him. For me, well out of tune. Yes, a totally overdone song. He was like a nervous little boy, well out of his depth with the others tonight. Should make the elimination job easy unless we get another public sympathy vote to prevent him being in bottom 2 where he should very definitely be. How much longer do we have to listen to comments about potential when he's not delivering it?

1. Andy - nice, but not spectacular
2. Brenda - solid but not her best
3. Journey South - the acostic section at the start was fab, but much as I love them, they did head towards kareoke land during the chores...
4. Shayne - not my cup of tea, but better than I expected.
5. Maria - two average weeks in a row for Maria, very poor song choice.
6. Conway Sisters Rather disjointed, odd moments of sounding great. Bit of a dull song.
7. Nicholas - Sounded flat to me, the ending was especially bad
8. Chico - Proved he can't sing AT ALL, but you know, I actually prefered him tonight because he wasn't doing all the cheesey prancing around.

Overall, it was a bit of an uninspired week performance wise. Nothing to make me go 'wow' from anyone!!

This is getting difficult now. There were some really good performances tonight...

Shayne - 9.5 (as soon as he walked out, I knew that song was going to work - it was a great, sexy, winning (slightly arrogant) performance)

The Conway Sisters - 9 (in the scheme of things, really exciting; bizarrely, Simon seems to want them out, but I loved the fact they just said FU to him and did their own thing and that they picked a good song that isn't that well known - go them!)

Brenda - 8.5 (fantastic again. I want to see her in the final, but I can see Simon's point: I think she's a hot live performer, but may not stand out as a recording artist)

Journey South - 8 (after a few glasses of wine I found liked it, and it got the crowd going, but it seemed a little contrived with that wee guitar solo... I dunno. Andy looks hotter every week and Carl's a bit of a munter trapped in headlights. Not that looks have much bearing on the matter, you understand)

Chico - 7.5 (he was a bit off-key in places, but 'X' doesn't mean pitch perfect, it has to do with prompting feeling and capturing something uncommon. I thought it was a vulnerable, if slightly hammy, performance - could have done without the twirl and the boyband vest - but good.

Andy - 7 (nice: wonderful, sensual voice and a lovely bloke. The song, though, was a huge pile of Y-fronted pants - what the f.h. was it? Hell's bells, what a tuneless, uninspiring dirge)

Maria - 6 (a strong, versatile singer, given a bit of a crotch-thruster. Okay, she ain't no nun, but Mick Jagger she also ain't. It was okay, but she's capable of so much more)

Nicholas - 3 (ew, ew, ew. He sounded as flat as a flibberin' pancake and I *hate* that song. It was just too awful to describe, which is a shame, because he has something)

**

I guess I'm saying Maria and Nicholas should be in the bottom two, but my bones tell me the British People will shun The Conways and Chico.

OK, here's my analysis (for what it's worth anyway!)

From Best To Worst:

1. Journey South I've said this in another thread, and I'll say it again. I wasn't blown away tonight. I'm a massive JS fan, but it just didn't seem rocky enough, and their vocals were drowned out by the backing track. Carl looked absolutely petrified, but as I've said, I don't think people really appreciate how hard it is to sing and play the guitar at the same time. His solo was very good. I still think it was the best performance of the night, I think they have amazing talent, and I'm glad that they take risks.

2. Maria I was pleasantly surprised by Maria tonight. I wasn't expecting to like this, but I think she did a really good job. It was entertaining, she tried her best with a song she didn't really want to do, and I think she pulled it off. Well done!

3. The Conway Sisters I really, really liked this. I thought it suited them perfectly and they looked like they were having a blast. I hope they're still here next week. They're lovely girls, and I think they have great voices. Much better than previous weeks.

4. Andy Andy impressed me tonight. I've never liked any of his performances, but this was really good tonight. I thought it sounded flat tonight, but it's such a good song, that I did think he did a good job. I still don't think he'll have a successful career though.

5. Brenda Yeah, it was good, but it wasn't great. I just think she sounds the same every week. She needs to take a huge risk at some point to show what she can really do. I do like her, but just think she's getting rather predictable. I couldn't really focus much on her peformance, as it just looked the same as every other week.

6. Nicholas Well, it was better than last week, that's for sure, but I still don't think he's good enough for this competition. It sounded extemely flat at times, and very screechy. I really wasn't very impressed.

7. Shayne I'm afraid I thought this was really, really bad tonight. I was cringing throughout the performance. It just didn't seem to go anywhere. Was very 'Stars In Their Eyes'. Just can't warm to Shayne, and I think it will be a travesty if he's in the final, let alone the winner.

8. Chico. It was worse than I thought it was going to be. It reminded me of the video for Michael Jackson's 'Earth Song'. Very cheesy, and I think it proved, that he really can't sing. He needs to go.

Was gonna do the top 8 performance thread but didn't get it so my favourites tonight were Maria, Brenda & Journey South (in no particular order) I also thought the Conway Sisters were very good and I liked Andy but wasn't too keen on the song! I didn't like Nicholas or Chico much tonight...and although Shayne was good his performance didn't really do it for me!

Was a very high standard show tonight though and I enjoyed it! I'm going for a Chico/Nick bottom two!

Oh the tension!
