Shayne:
I wanted to not like this. I expected to hate it. But I couldn't - it was good! Very good. Everyone's been speculating and talking about "Timberlake clones." Come on, give the guy a break. A couple of months ago he was selling shoes for a living. To come THAT close to a good imitation of a multi-million dollar selling artist, singing AND dancing, is a great achievement by anyone's standards. Well done Shayne.
Maria:
Again, I expected to hate this, but in the end it was OK. To say that at the start of the week she'd never heard of the song, and it's a pretty complicated lyric in parts, she did a pretty good job. She's NOT got a rock voice and I agree with Simon that she's nowhere near dirty enough to sing the song with any conviction, but I think she'll be safe with it.
Conway Sisters:
While their performance this week didn't suffer from the tuning problems of last week, I still struggle to "get" these girls. I honestly don't think that their voices complement each other very well - the "harmonies" for me are not very harmonic. Altogether a pretty lacklustre and boring performance that didn't do anything for me.
Andy:
I like this guy, and I think he's a good singer, but as for the Conways I could quite easily have gone to sleep during the first half of his song. He picked it up a bit in the second half and sang with some passion, but even so it was weak, for me. I've heard it said in the past that the sound in the studio is totally different from what we hear and I'm sure this must be the case as the judges, Simon in particular, seemed to like it, and he's not easily pleased!
Journey South:
Again a song of two halves - a little weak at the start I thought, but they pulled it back in the second half. I enjoyed the performance but I really wish these guys would RELAX! They'd be 100% better if they enjoyed it.
Chico:
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!
Yeah, I know his fans will say "see, he CAN sing" because they're mostly tone deaf and mesmerised. His performance was every bit as dire as I expected inspite, believe it or not, of the fact that I really wanted to see him pull it off. He couldn't, he was never going to be able to. Awful. No range, no emotion, no expression. Just a strangulated croak, because he knows he has to "sing" that way to try to disguise the fact he has no voice.
Nicholas:
Jesus this was just awful. Just about every other note was flat, parts of it drowned out by the backing track, no emotion, no passion, no effort. Just "I'm so laid back I got dis in da bag innit".
Brenda:
Ahhh you didn't let me down, babe. Fantastic. The only artist to give me chills tonight. Perfect vocal, emotional and controlled.
Overall:
I think in general everyone except Chico raised their game tonight, it's just that some of them started from a lower point !
Bottom two prediction:
Chico and Nicholas
