Would you like to explain what about the way she said it sounded homophobic as I seam to have missed this episode? I suspect that it isn't a homophobic comment unless he is gay and I don't know or care if he is. However I'm no expert on these matters as I'm just an old fashioned kind of fairy. I find ANY use of my sexuality to describe something that is rubbish, bad or not wanted as insulting.
Gay is STILL very much a lower lifeform or at least something absolutely undesirable to be laughed at. Why do people STILL not understand that it is something that wasn't chosen by me at any stage in my life? Therefore, I find myself Gay - What am I supposed to do about it? ![]() I personally would love to see overnight the word Gay replaced with the word Black. Can you imagine someone looking down their nose and saying "Oh! That's a bit Black!" - World War III would quite rightfully happen. We Gays just HAVE TO put up with it and get laughed at. All a very sorry state indeed for something I can do nothing about. |

But i think his sister was using the word in the current sense... ie that if Shayne (woof!) was doing his nails whilst singing a Darkness track in a high falsetto then it would appear very gay.
Which is absolutely true. As for the sister...she was a bit butch and lesbian wasnt she? |

Thanks, BurlyBear, I stopped myself from saying that before
. Shayne's sister does seem more masculine than him.I usually take offence at people who are easily offended - be it about their colour, creed, sexuality, whatever - but I did find the way in which she said this quite derogatory. I didn't know how to take it. Whether it was because she/they have a problem with gay people or whether she realised she'd said something she shouldn't. Whether Shayne is gay or not is not a problem as far as I'm concerned. My problem with him is that I think he's totally ordinary. However, if he is, I'd rather he was honest and came out now and not "do a Will" and wait until after the contest is over. It would look so much better than acting as if it were something to be ashamed of and that would hinder his chances of winning. |

You are quite right and well done for pointing it out, I don't get why the word 'gay' can be used to desribe something a bit cr@p and it's considered okay, it must be a fashion thing, hopefully it will move on to some other word soon. |

Actually where I come from "black" is used as an adjective for dirty. It has nothing to do with race. It has everything to do with coal and earth. Quote:
