Thanks for reminding me of that moment, I was also amazed. He was almost staggered by the announcement. I have no idea why. We need a sherlock.

Noticed this too although I don't know why. There were a few odd things about tonights show that stuck in my mind.

After Nicholas's performance in his reply to the judges he said something along the lines of... 'I will come back one more time and give a good performance/give me a chance to give one more good performance'. Does he know something we don't? Is he out next week hence him saying he has one more performance. The Conways looked as though they knew Louis was keeping them in too.

I initially thought peoples posts about it being a fix and certain people going next were a load of tosh...I'm now wondering! Waiting for next weeks show to see if Nicholas goes or not now!

if it is a fix surely the contestants wouldnt be told about it, why would they even bother staying in it and giving any effort at all

There was also that furore last week with the Conway Sisters throwing a tantrum and SC was reported to have had to go after laura Conway because she left the studio before the results were announced. Following the results a few posters remarked how SC had mimed or was overheard to say to The Conways (paraphrasing), "happy now?" or "I told you."

The reason he looked so shocked, is because he secretly agreed with Simon's comments about Brenda.

It's extraordinary he would be shocked at Brenda getting through considering she (and Journey South) are head and shoulders above all the others in terms of professionalism and talent

I tell you one thing though. The results don't half come through quickly. One moment Kate is saying that the phones are closed and a second or two later she has the card with everything written down on it. How can this be? I vaguely remember Ant and Dec composing themselves during the ad break for the results on Pop Idol. I know digital techonology and the like is advanced but sometimes I wonder how genuine those results can be.

A good point Princess Jilly, but let's imagine that you were a guy or girl who had been struggling for years to get any kind of exposure or recongnition. Then you get the chance to appear on this show (even if it is just one week you still have the kudos of having got through to the final stages). You are then told that the show is semi-fixed or whatever term they will use, but you are given sweeteners and a truck load of legal threats not to say anything...what would you do? I would use that exposure to give my all and hope that a record company would take me up on the back of my TV exposure and I would also know that I would be involved in the X-factor tour next year leading to more exposure. Also, if I had a bit of common sense between my ears, I would be thinking "Hell" Who wants to win something like this anyway? We all know the history of the winners in shows like these. It is the taking part that is more fun. Not to win and be dumped again six months later." So, yeah I think the contestants would be happy to still go on and perform even if they knew that someone else was going to be fixed as the winner.

Just as a tag to my posting above. I was reading about Pete Waterman in the Sunday papers last week and he said that Popstars the Rivals was fixed in favour of Girls Aloud winning from the start and that they made a whole show around it even though they knew that they wanted a girl band to win and had the song all ready and waiting which was going to be the hit record. I know he is Potty Pete and all that, and as a so-called expert in the music bizz perhaps he should have pulled out if he had realised rather than raking in the money he was earning as a judge, but still it made interesting reading and was probably true.

I think the producers tell her the results through and earpeice and just has the card to make it look good

Maybe the judges are tipped off by the production staff about which way the votings going. Could be that Brenda was the bottom three, with less votes than Maria prior to transmission, but then just pipped Maria at the post.

Which I reckon is more likely than all the conspiracy theories.

If this is so it's bad news for Brenda next week.

??
Popstars the rivals was a competition based on males v females.
GA didnt win popstars outright. They won the female part and OTV won the male part.
A girl band was always going to 'win', just as a male band was always going to 'win'.
Both acts released a single, and therefore had equal chances of success. The fact that PW chose a naff song for OTV is his fault.

I heard that too....he said now do you like me, which fits in with reports of Laura walking off, I'm guessing she called him or something, and probably said something to show she didn't like him.

The conways think they know everything where as simon has been in the buisness for years so i think they should listen to what he says to them when he gives the advice. Instead of pulling there faces and storming of

I think your theory could be right and maybe Brenda was in the bottom two at one point.

I actually though JS and Brenda were the best yesterday, although they all gave a poorer than usual performance if honest.

Spot on Media. Brenda was way below par last night.

I noticed that too. the idea that he had thought she was in the bottom two from what they had been told about how voting was going seems the simplest explanation - though not the most interesting.
