I just got back from america and while I was there I couldnt charge my phone. I got a USA adapter and plugged it in and it registered as plugged in but then the message came up "not charging". Ive called vodafone and they have no idea why it shouldnt charge. Ive got a nokia 5140. It couldnt have been the plugs or anything because my sisters phone charged fine. Does anyone know why it might not work? All I could think of is that they use different voltage but surely that wouldnt make it not work at all?

Did you try taking the device back to the retailer and changing it? We did this in the States not long ago and had no difficulty in charging any phone. It would be easy for them in the shop to see if it worked first before you took it away. Common sense?

the device or the phone?

I tried it first time last year and it didnt work so i just bought a new adapter and figured the old one i had was broke but this one did the same. I havent taken the phone back cause its from vodafone online so id probably have to send it off and that would take ages...

Is your charger definalty compatible with a 110v input?

Most Nokia ones are (look for 110-240v somewhere in the plastic of the plug) but some third party ones simply serve the UK and wont work abroad. Very few mind...

UK ones would work in the Rest of Europe, Australia, NZ and a few other countries, as we all use 230v +/-10%.

Sorry, should have been more clear - for 'abroad' read 'USA'.

Its defiantly the charger. When I was in America last year I found that the new style 'slimmer' Nokia chargers work with the 110V supply, whereas the old 'block' chargers only work with 230V. When I used the block charger I got the not charging message.
