Clock changes to the wrong time?
rodmac51

Has anyone had a problem with their clock not keeping the correct time?

I noticed the clock was about 15 minutes slow yesterday but thought nothing of it as we had a power cut ealier so assumed it was something to do with that.

However, when I went into the menu the GMT offset was on 'Auto' and when I came out again the clock was right. As soon as I changed a channel it immediately went 15 minutes slow again. Reset in the menu and all was well again. Changed channel and 15 minute slow again.

Then found that changing channels sometimes also corrected the time. Needless to say this was causing havoc with the recording times.

Seems OK this morning so was this caused by the power failure, was it transmission faults again (thinking of the problems when the clocks changed) or could the box have a bug?

This is something that has been discused recently and it seems to go down two avenues:

A) the box has got a fault

B) Incorrect time information was being broadcast to the box by channel.

There are reports of Humax being able to diagnose A) and then advise to swap out the machine.

For B) Information on Humax web site says changing channel to one that is correctly broadcasting time will normally correct the time.

Needless to say even if your box doesnt have a fault, B) impacts quite seriously on PVR owners if it happens.

If I phoned Humax about this problem I would like to know if there was any way of identifying which channel(s) is broadcasting correct or incorect time. Then assuming you could identify which one is broadcasting time correctly, how long do you need to keep in on that channel before that channels time is used on the Humax.

OK, this seems to be associated with ITV1.

When I came home earlier the TV was off but the Humax was on standby displaying ITV1 and the time as 11.23. The actual time was 14.11. I switched on the TV only to find the box had locked up - presumably at 11.23 this morning.

A power cycle reset the channel correctly and also reset the time. This doesn't however, fully explain the original problem of the clock re-setting itself by about 15 minutes. Now I am confused

The ITV, plus other channels in MUX2, related lockups seems to be an ongoing issue (see the lockups on Mux 2 thread). Unortunately you seem to have this.

It is plausible that the MUX issue, that can lockup some boxes or cause it to not record the sound on the second concurrent recording, has had an undesirable effct on the box affecting the time. But it could also be a seporate issue still. I would be interested to see what Humax say about it if you report it to them.

Thanks marcdavis.

Yes, I've seen the lock-up problems, in fact I reported them myself a couple of weeks back, but this clock thing seems only partly related to that. As it's a fundamental part of the recording process it needs to be resolved quickly. If it's a fault then I want to be returning the box. If it's a bug I would hope Humax solve it fairly soon.

I've been trying to contact Humax support but all I get is a recorded message. I'll try emailing them. Not quite the service I got during the launch week, when they answered promptly every time. I guess they're now getting a lot more calls. Their response now will be a good indication of how well they provide support.

Since had a call-back from Humax

I spoke too soon - support have just called me back which, in my view, puts them back in the 'excellent' category

They are aware of the problem and the clock and lock-ups are linked. They should Know by Friday this week whether it can be rectified over the air. They've promised to call me on Friday so I'll keep you posted.
