One of mine's got to be Fat Boy Slim's Praise You Like I Do. I don't like any of Gorilla's animated ones, they all seem to look the same.

..... which it is but, back in the day, it was a real big deal.

I remember watching the 'World Premiere' one Friday night (CH4 if I remember correctly) at midnight and being suitably impressed.

I'm not even a MJ fan.

"See you next Wednesday ..... "

Crap video? Ermmm - how about Video Killed The Radio Star (original not POTUSA)

Most videos before the likes of Duran Duran made really expensive ones were pretty dire - cheap and nasty, for the most part, or hideously cheesy (Sister Sledge's "Frankie" springs to mind as particularly awful).

Can't stand 'pretty boy' videos such as what Westilife put out.

3/4 length jackets, lots of stares into the camera and model style poses - perhaps a few slow motion panning shots. Video cuts between the band members for the first half then there tends to be a group shot for the final chorus.

You forgot the classic westlife "Stand up when the key changes" moment.

You could make a entire channel 4 clip show out of it....

I hate all those bling bling, crotch grabbing , RnB and rapping videos, though I love Kanye West, who doesn't seem to do much of the former.

any crappy rap/r'n'b vids where the ugly singer/rapper whatever is surround by "attractive" women and fast cars. if the poor guy wasnt rich he wouldnt have any of these "attractive" women near him, just a waste of money to inflate a poor little mans ego

I'm not keen on hip-hop videos where they're all in a club surrounded by docile whores who look roofied to the tits. Or any with macho posturing. You're trying to look intimidating, sure - but it's most likely a 14 year old kid who's watching anyway.

Absolutely. What a cop out they are. Everyone is the same as the next one.

I like a bit of a story in a video.

that one that was out recently, was it 'call on me'? where it was basically women in leotards thrusting around in a dance studio

You might think they'd give up all those old cliches after Blink 182's "All The Small Things" piss-take video...

Well, I wouldn't call it recent as such, it came out sometime last year. And yes, it was "Call on Me" by Eric Prydz - a bastardisation of "Valerie" by Steve Winwood (not that the original was any better, mind. ).

Yes - a certain female acquaintance of mine can't stand this video at all. She said to me - wouldn't there be an outcry if it was a bunch of blokes prancing around in the video thrusting their pelvic regions? She does have a point, though.

I can't say I am much enamoured with Girls Aloud's video where they keep on changing their outfits. Cheap and nasty and poorly rehearsed.

They're not winning any awards for choreography any time soon, are they?

I went off videos a long time ago, not 'cause I think they're all crap but because they detract from the music so much. I had no interest in Nirvana 'cause of that really arse 'teen spirit' vid. it was a kind of turn off. I think vids are getting incredibly naff, I'm sick off seeing pimply sulky little no marks draped in models and I'm sick of seeing women presented as meat. It seems that women can only be viewed in terms of their sexuality or ability to inspire a hard on. Some videos are pompous in the extreme - I'm just sick of 'em, stuffed with visual cliches, dodgy attitudes or hard sell - they're just adverts.
