Why is Chico being allowed to 'promote' his own song on next Saturday's X Factor?

So Chico is being allowed to perform his new single in next Saturday's X Factor. Is this because they know that he will be out on Saturday and they can therefore make money out of it as a Xmas single? He wouldn't be allowed to have the record out while he was still in the competition. I think that this is the first time in Pop Idol/X Factor that a performer has sang their own song. Very unfair and I think that this show is seriously turning into the Chico Factor

I think its another reason for people to see the show as a farce. I would say to Sharon if you spent half the time with your other acts that you and your team all give to Chico maybe Maria wouldnt have gone, maybe Brenda wouldnt be restricted to 60's diva songs, and maybe Andy wouldnt bore me to tears. Your other acts need you Sharon.

Didnt G4 do the same song on the show last year as they released as a single?

I dont think it really matters, its not like this is giving Chico a head start to be the next George Micheal or anything.

who knows? still, it's not any worse than The Conways promoting a Westlife song before it was released.....

No, but its a very smart move for Simon Cowell et al because he knows that he will make shed loads of money on this as a Xmas Single. He's maybe even hoping it will get to no 1.

Is this a Westlife song because it seems that everyone is having a go with it.

Maybe other singers are refusing to let Chico 'murder' any more of their songs.
It is a rather cynical marketing ploy though.

"Heartbreaker" was a hit in 1982

"Midnight Train To Georgia" was a hit in the 70's

"Somebody Else's Guy" was a hit in 1984

Kind of blows your 60's diva song theory out of the window.

It's all a bit cynical at the end of the day. The use of "You Raise Me Up" is well documented, and this week Shayne is apparently doing a Take That song.

Take That release a "new" Greatest Hits CD today, and guess what, it's on BMG records.

Coincidence?

I thought Louis said that he was going to let Shayne do a "darkness" song next Saturday.

But at least they are singing songs that have already been recorded. Chico is promoting a song that has been written for him by his Vocal Coach that will be released as a future single by him. He may still be taking a risk as people will have never heard of the song.

Probably decided it was too much of a risk after Maria went on Saturday.

But will it be a risk? Everyone knows he isn't going to win the show. Better to get rid of him now and make some money out of him/public by way of a Xmas single.

If he does go out Saturday I fully expect them to announce that they will release the song as a single for Christmas bypassing the usual competition rules about only the winner being able to release a single and the other acts having to wait a few months.

It's a total risk though. The others now have the advantage of the public already knowing the song that they are doing.

How many songs do you instantly like on first hearing, most take a while, therefore Chico is at a disadvantage and it could mean him being voted out.

But are Chico's fans voting for his singing though? Its all about the 'performance'.

Totally agree with you Arty. Its a pity that the other artists don't ask to sing their own songs. I think Journey South would be great singing their own songs.

Because he's run out of Ricky Martin songs?

I look forward to it, it should be a good laugh.

He has got zero chance of winning, but nobody can deny that he is an entertainer.

In years to come, he'll be the one that's remembered from X Factor. It might be for the wrong reasons, but a career can be built upon it (eg Cheeky Girls)

"Chico Time" has a good chance of being a huge novetly hit because he is popular (especially with kids). I don't think anyone will be buying a greatest hits album of his though.

Does that mean that Chico already has a recording contract?

I think he has. I'm sure I read somewhere that he has recorded a few songs in the past.

You will find that most people don't vote to save Chico for his singing ability
