Don't Look Back in Anger

Originally posted by dicey http://bigbrother.digitalspy.co.uk/pollres.phpHave you seen the poll on this website as to who is favourite in week 7, it's only Jonny that's in the lead. I am flabbergasted He has been most popular in week 7, 6, 4 and 3 Second most popular in week 5 // Why was Kate was so popular that week ? He has survived three evictions. The big question is why is he popular ? Whenever anyone responds, it's just because he's a nice bloke from the North East, and everyone who calls BBLB with a geordie accent wants him to win. Flabbergasted as well! |

Not a big Johnny fan myself: irritates me the way he interrogates people about what they've been doing when he wasn't in the room. As for banging on about his poor family travelling to London for eviction night - it's like he's begging the other hm's not to nominate him. Quote:

The more I see.... the less I like him.
I have been reading the reasons people give for him to be a favourite in this and other sites and what I have found out boils down to:
1.- He is a fireman He saves lifes His works is not well paid He is a hero in the same way as the firemen involved in Sept 11th He represents the working class Women feel atracted to men in uniform 2.- He is a simple and honest man from the North East He cares about his family He doesn't backstab or dislike others for not reason He embodies geordie/northern culture 3.- He is funny His antics with Kate Drinking games, humor, entertainment value Some of the reasons has nothing to do with how he has behaved in BB at all. Personally I don't find his profession a reasonable criteria,. I have never considered Jonny as the embodiment of the Fire Brigade and all professions deserve respect. In the same way that they are priests that don't honour their position, being a fireman is not proof of sainthood. Salary is not a reason to consider who should win or not. BB has never been promoted as a charity instituion. Some NorthEastenders don't feel confortable as beein portraited as Jonny, in the same way Sandy can not be seen as every Scotsman. It's their individual values that should count, not whether they were born. The same goes for class values. I don't doubt Jonny is very fond of his family, I assume everybody in the BB is. The problem is him constantly mentioning them has became annoying and an irrational justification for him not to expect nominations from other HM. He knew this could happen. He can not expect everybody liking him. He himself has shown dislike and has nominated others. It seems more a case of double standards. BB is an exercise in how to deal with rejection and it has always been. If something can define this BB is how backstabbing and bitching has reached new levels. The producers wanted this and every single HM has been at it. It has been the editing, bias and how this was carried out that has helped some of them to appear no so much involved. As for his funny side, well it was funny the first time but after seing the same again and again, it becomes boring, basic and predictable. HIs funny moments are far from been spontaneus and natural. He tries to hard and it's clear he likes to see himself as the funny man of the bunch. If you compare him to Brian last year you will have to conclude that what was second nature to Brian, is anything but forced in Jonny. Brian could laugh about the others and himself and he showed quick wit and was pathetically funny even without trying. I can not say the same about Jonny. The person we have seen in BB has shown not so many qualities that I would consider a reson for him winning and the more I see of him the less he comes across in a good light: He comes across as a progressively embittered man trying to hard.. That is going to be his downfall as the final approaches and his more unpleasant side starts to be evident. The fact is many people (even some of his fans) are growing tired of him. If that is the person you want to win.. go for it. I have other preferences. |

I have to say.
The feedback we're getting from the Radio 1 listeners is OVERWHELMINGLY Jonny to win (and that's not just because Chris Moyles likes him). Monitoring the BB e-mails we got Alex was the clear favourite for the first couple of weeks, Jonny is now the clear favourite however, Kate is starting a REAL surge and if she goes on like this could win the series as far as the Radio 1 listeners go(providing she's not voted out this week!) ok, (but remember these aren't my opinions but the ones that come across in the e-mails):
He comes across as a genuine guy who enjoys having a laugh When he is funny - he's very funny (especially the games and impressions with Kate) He seems quite down to earth (Craig from BB1 style) which means it would be good for him to win unlike Alex who's so obviously trying to use this for his modelling career! |

I've spoken to his wife and she backs that up. he's like that 24/7 and people warm to that. |

Wife?

What do you mean wife? I didn't know Jonny was married, I thought he was engaged? And by the way, after all the answers I have read today I still don't understand why Jonny is so popular. |

It makes no difference to her whether he's louder in the house than normal or more O.T.T. Her exact words were "oh, yes, he's always like that life and soul of a party". All I'm saying is not that he's not an attention seeker (he clearly is) but people like the fact he seems genuine. Brian was WAY more of an attention seeker last year, but people believed he was being himself and is naturally funny so they voted him to win. |

I am definately not a Jonny fan and would love him to be voted out NEXT..the others , Tim etc can wait.
I know I'm only dreaming, but has anyone noticed how everyone on BBLB smiles fondly when they talk of Jonny, and if he gets up to anything in the house he is refered to as a "cheeky chappie" on E4's ticker. Hitting the girls too hard, starting the drinking games in the hope they will lead somewhere etc etc never appear on C4 summary.. Just a sentence about how worried he was about his Dad when he was ill seemed to be his main contribution last night. No wonder he has such a big fan club out there! I'm going to watch tonights prog now to see how good 'ol Jonny 2 shoes' has been getting on. Oh, and I musn't forget to watch his all seeing eyes darting about, weighing everything/body up. I am waiting to see if they evr synchronize with his mouth and laugh too! |

I've also heard as have we all that he has a terrible temper, and we have seen him moping round the house every day for weeks on end. You call THAT entertaining? I think that is much closer to the REAL Jonny, not the invented for BB Jonny, whom I call a total idiot at best, and a slimey crawley ughhhhh worm thing at worst. |

Earlier tonight Jonny said:
"Jonny ups the ante in the 'childhood prizes' stakes by saying his family won four of the five prizes when they went to Butlins; Jonny himself won the Fancy Dress and Art competitions, and her sister won the Dance competition; in the fancy dress competition, Jonny was dressed like 'Fag Ash Lil'." <snob> Can we seriously allow an unfunny, repetitive common git who's family went to Butlins and entered all the competitions, to win BB? </snob> Please no!!! |

Originally posted by TSR The more i read these sort of posts about Jonny, the more times im tempted to vote in his favour.Earlier tonight Jonny said: "Jonny ups the ante in the 'childhood prizes' stakes by saying his family won four of the five prizes when they went to Butlins; Jonny himself won the Fancy Dress and Art competitions, and her sister won the Dance competition; in the fancy dress competition, Jonny was dressed like 'Fag Ash Lil'." <snob> Can we seriously allow an unfunny, repetitive common git who's family went to Butlins and entered all the competitions, to win BB? </snob> Please no!!! The Jonny haters are generally those who align themselves with the snobby end of the household and probably share many of the views of Tim. I live in the north-east but dont origninate from here. I think im able to mix with people from all backgrounds. I have friends who are ponsy like Alex and earthy types like Jonny but dont judge the HM's on their class or background. My views of the HM's are based on whether they come across as decent people and people I would be happy to know. My views have changed somewhat as BB has progressed but the 2 I have consistently liked are Jonny and Kate, but Alex is starting to grow on me, especially now he is chilling, whereas now the real PJ has emerged ive gone off him. Most of the views here are simply based on snobbery, and a lack of understanding of why people present in the way they do. Jonny and Kate are both pretty ordinary, not particularly well educated, but basically decent people in my view, and fortunately most of the country can see that! |
