I also felt that something had gone wrong. Why let her know before she was due to give her second performance that she was going to be out? The only reason to do that would be to psyche her out so that she would screw up in public.
I know they might have wanted that to happen so that they could more easily justify getting rid of her. But then, when she responded to the judges' decision calmly and with dignity they really looked unhappy. There was, as you say, something not quite right about it. I didn't read their behaviour as a "damn I feel bad about this" unhappiness. I read it more as a slightly annoyed "this isn't going quite as planned" unhappiness.
I hope she manages to keep her dignity - and somehow copes with the fact that however well she conducts herself, if Simon Cowell decides that he wants her to be portrayed badly in the media, it'll happen. Poor girl. What a sordid business it is.
