Attention ALL voting fans!!
*Em*
15-11-2005
Last week I started a thread 'Who do you think WILL win', a lot of people wrote they think JS would win but they personally would like another contestant to win..

Does this mean that all JS fans think they are SAFE and for teh time being will vote someone else?!

To me Maria was in the bottom 2 this week because her FANS thought she was SAFE and didn't vote for her.. imo she wasn't there because people didnt like her!!

Everyone keeps saying Maria was there for a reason and Louis was right to have a choice, yes he certainly was, but really Maria was much more talented and she was there for the wrong reasons.. if the voting had been 'who would you like to GO' there is no way she would've gone!!

Unfortunately this is not how the voting is so...

Is this going to change peoples ways of voting now they have realised the act they are supporting may not quite be so SAFE?!

I don't agree with all this "People didn't vote because they thought their favourite act was safe". What about Shayne, JS and Andy?? They are considered safe, but they were still voted for. Granted Maria didn't deserve to go over the Conways on Saturday, she is a talented lady, but I found her a very bland performer. Reality voters have heard this excuse too many times when perceived favourites have been evicted early for serious fans not to vote for who they want to win. I don't agree with Louis' decision on Saturday, but Maria was in the bottom two as voted by the public, fair and square.

Fair enough, but who's to say that Nicholas didn't get more votes than JS (for example), i'm not assuming that this is what has happened but i think its a great possibility otherwise there wouldn't be so much uproar about it!!
Maria has a huge fan base, if the Conways had gone i'm presuming not as many people would be signing petitions to get them a record deal, whereas Maria is because a lot of the GBP thinks she's good enough to have one!!

But the fact still remains she had the second least (or maybe the least) public votes on Saturday. I don't understand about the uproar about Nicholas and JS, what on earth is that about??? I wish Maria all the best for the future, but I am cynical enough to believe this is a huge publicity stunt for the show, what other evictee has had all this publicity???

I have posted on another thread how I remember Maria's fans being amongst the most critical when this theory was put forward for 4Tune not getting enough votes in the second week. Funny now to see them coming up with this as an excuse. Particularly hilarious when you consider that 4Tune were second favourites at the time hence giving their fans all the reason in the world to think they were safe for a few weeks but Maria was never anywhere near the top three in the stakes.

The sad fact is she was never really as popular as her fans were led to believe. The reason she was in the bottom two is because not that many people were voting for her in the first place.

I'm not the sort of person who is going to go between two boards havin a dispute with one person, to me its entertainment.. i was very disappointed at Maria going.. i asked a question.. not ALL fans can be tarred with the same brush!!

That was an example, the uproar i was referring too is the whole amount of publicity this has caused... Maria must have a lot more fans than people are admitting too, i was only askin the question.. DID HER FANS ACTUALLY VOTE!!

I don't understand this part of your post. What does the number of votes Nicholas, JS or anyone else got have to do with your argument?

Apparently not.

Whether people would have been signing a petition for the Conways is a moot point and totally irrelevant to your argument. Yes, there is a site or two for people to sign petitions for Maria to get a record deal but count the number of signatures. It is hardly HUGE, even accounting for the fact that less than 1 in 10 sign these things. Multiply the number of signatures by 10 and the figures are still unlikely to impress record companies.

I didnt originally bring this up somebody else mentioned that JS, Nicholas etc all got enough votes to get through and i was only questioning the order in which they may have been put through may not be what people expect!!

When Chico originally entered the show, he had a pretty small fan base, his fans realised this so came on here sayin 'vote Chico, vote Chico' etc, he hasn't improved particularly but his fans realised he was in danger of going and has managed to stay (by the way i dont dislike Chico).. this can work the opposite way round.. did Maria's fans think she was safe and not vote AS much it seems common sense to me!!

Going from other threads in this forum,I think voters are actually in a minority here.

Anytime there has been a thread like 'will you vote',by far the majority of posters who reply say that they don't vote.

Well i'm one of those people, i havent voted through out which is why i dont come on here and argue, but if i thought my fave act wasnt going to get through and i felt strongly enough about them i would definitely be pressing the redial button!!

I think in the early weeks there is some complacency - particularly if you have a few favourites. You may choose to concentrate on one of your favourites knowing that s/he is less likely to receive public support than your other favourite - e.g., you might like both Shayne and Chico but concentrate your votes on Chico cos you think Shayne is safe.

However, as the weeks go by it becomes more serious - and the serious fan i.e, the ones who care enough to pick up the phone and vote, will start to concentrate on who they really want to win - particularly after 4Tune going in the second week, I think this gave some a wake up call.

I posted last week that we would get a shock this week and that one of Sharon's lot would be in trouble. There was in my view a split vote between Brenda, Andy and Maria who all appeal to very similar demographics. Maria came off worst - maybe because she was one of a few favourties by voters so they concentrated on those they felt might get less votes - like Brenda for example.

At this stage this won't in my view account for enough. Its like alot of these things - it not a case of people having more fans its a case of the fans that they have shout louder. On here it seemed Maria was relatively popular - however, that sometimes has more to do with forum members who shout louder, and shout down other forum members who have other preferences. Personally I am fed up of being called shallow for liking Shayne, and therefore cannot be bothered to explain myself anymore - therefore I remain quiet. Just because Maria was preceived as being popular doesn't mean she was - and obviously given she didn't get enough votes on Saturday she wasn't popular enough to keep her in there.

Good post!!
I hate the attitude of people who feel the need to shout down other peoples view, we all have opinions which is the reason for a 'public' forum!! Sometimes you have to agree to disagree!!
