Christmas storylines devised to depress

Hi all

It really annoys me when soaps deliberately have an incredibly depressing storyline on Christmas Day to attract viewers. The day, for those lucky enough, is about having fun and spending time with family - surely it's not about crying at the television and being made to feel miserable.

I know they have to have something exciting happen, but why does it have to be so miserable!!!

And yes, I know that I don't have to watch, and I most definitely won't be watching EE on Christmas Day, as I'll be with my 83 year old nan who I'm very close to, and won't want us both to spend any part of the day in tears!!!

Just my thoughts and wondered if anyone felt the same...

Spoiler
But Christmas in EE this year will be a happy one as both Kat and Alfie leave together in each others arms.

I'm hoping that Grant will return on Xmas Day or Eve with his family and the Mitchells have a happy Xmas for once that doesn't result in Peggy throwing all the uneaten food away in tears.
