Just been thinking about Shayne and the very obvious comparisons being made by the judges between him Justin Timberlake. I thought Saturday’s performance was just average to be honest - and it came across as a bit stars in their eyes to me. His performance of the Daniel Beddingfield track a few weeks back was far more impressive

Shayne is not necessarily my type of thing, but I can see his appeal and he does have the 'look', but I don’t actually think has the potential to be a career artist in that he could be still making records in 5-10 yrs time. I think he would probably have a few hit singles and a fairly successful album but that would be it. My reason for this is because of the JT comparisons he would end up being a poor mans version of JT which ultimately would do him no favours.

Would be interested to know what others people’s thoughts were on Shayne.

I don't think the JT comparison will be a lasting one. Last week he wascompared to JT because he did a JT number. Next week, if he does a Robbie number, he will be compared to Robbie. That too will pass.

I'm sure you have a point lulu but is it a good thing to be constantly compared to someone else? Isn't that a sign of not having much to offer of your own?

If it happens constantly, it's not a good thing, and it's not necessarily fair, but some people will, inevitably, do that. I'd say it's only likely to happen when he sings songs by artists with strong images like JT and Robbie, though.

If Shayne had actually been comparable, yeah. But his performance wasn't, so no .

the people on this forum make comparisons not the perfoprmers. whatever song they sing will always be compared to the original. remember these people are singing live not a cd that has been tweeked, vocally perfected ,polished and pressed.

I think Shayn's performance was good, but I don't think he quite managed to make the song his own......hold on *lightbulb flashes on above Innocents head* I must start a thread on this....*rushes off*

the term "x factor" should mean something that you haven't seen before ie. original. shayne should have come out on stage before the track and said "he was born in 1981, he's dated britney spears, he was part of a boyband, Tonight Kate, Im going to be Justin Timberlake"

we already have JT (and for nicholas we have Craig David and Lemar) so why do we need someone who is exactly like those artists??

ORIGINALITY GUYS!!!!!!!! please! shayne has the look of pop star but nothing else.

All of these performers will be compared to original artists. Unless Louis changes the arrangement of Shaynes songs, which he would be taking too bigger risk to do so, the tracks are always going to virtually the same as the original.

The tracks are selected by Louis and Shayne to compliment his voice and performance. i.e. which song would suit him best. If Shayne was to sing Andy's songs - with a contempory feel, would anyone actually think it would be good?.... er no.... and why?.... because the song and style may not suit him.

I agree that the words "X Factor" certainally means something different in my book. But it my book there is a subheading "Marketable Artist". If i was to go out and buy a record by one of these contestants, Shayne would be on my shopping list.

Carry on Shayne. You're doing a fantastic job. If anyone compares you to Justin Timberlake, whether their view is good or bad, take it as a compliment.

Exactly! Shayne's singing is nowhere near as good, nor his dancing, nor his general performance or charisma! What exactly do people see in him?

Of course that's what the show's about, I'm just surprised they think such a weak performer has what it takes.

Oops... i spotted a spelling mistake.

I think you meant "Week" as in "Week-in-week-out Performer"...

With your views, you obviously know more than i.......Louis.......Sharon.......Simon....... the rest of the nation.

Shall we leave it at that eh?

Oh, for goodness sake, plenty of others are not huge Shayne fans! I don't dislike the guy - in fact I think he has a lovely voice and I'd like to enjoy his performances. I think his best performance was the Daniel Bedingfield track, but since then I've been disappointed with him, as his performances just seem quite wooden. I just don't think he oozes charisma in the way most really successful people do. His tuning has also been a bit dodgy throughout the series, so I never feel all that confident in him, though it would help if they stopped giving him songs full of falsetto, as I really don't think this is his strongest quality. Maybe Simon's right about him, but don't forget all the rubbish he said about Steve last year!

Unfortunatly for Shayne he has been hyped to the max. Magazines, Judges, the public.... etc. This is obviously putting unneccesary pressure on the poor guy. He has everything to live up to now.

I feel that there are other strong performers in the show who are also doing themselves justice.

Shayne may have peaked to soon (remember G4 last year), but he still has the oppurtunity to shine even further.

Lets hope that everyone left in the competition has a good week next week so that all can be judged on the night, not from what has been typed, heard and read.

I think he's okay but he doesn't ring any bells for me musicwise. I don't get the appeal. I dont like JT either.

I must say I have often asked that very question about JT himself. Granted he can dance, but that's about the size of it.

Shayne has been compared to JT and RW since the start of the competition. He has been compared to others a lot more than, say,Brenda or Journey South. This is because he has no discernable style or persona of his own. I will be disappointed when he wins.

I really wonder about people sometimes.

The only people comparing Shayne to Justin Timberlake are people on forums.

So far I have read it's a problem because he vaguely looks like him - so what? I wish I did - and he sounds like him - which is hardly a bad thing.

And he looks smug when he gets through. How does he win?

Actually one of the judges compared him to JT one week as well - can't remember who or which week though!

I don't remember that being said, but they may had made reference to it after his performance, which would be a correct time to say such words, even if it's not true.

I hope everyone says that JS sound like Robbie when they do Angels, but I bet there will be no outcry then.

Performing JT's songs is one thing. Shayne has a good voice and that's fine.

What I found rather uncomfortable though was how he was made to look like a Justin Timberlake impersonater. He was dressed like Justin, had his haircut like Justin and had a Justin Timberlake dance routine.

Even though they all have to do cover versions (unless your names Chico) it doesn't mean that they should turn it into a glorified Stars In Their Eyes.
