The new vet, Hari Prasad, is actually Irish, but he seems to be of Asian origin. Although I think I may have read he was Turkish somewhere...so I don't know.

But either way, it would be the first Asian (or close to it) character Emmerdale have had right? The Daggerts were the first black family in the soap.

Not sure...this year I think. Actually he's mentioned on the latest Soap Spy on the ITV site, so probably this month sometime.

Look forward to it. Out of all the soaps Emmerdale have it hard becuase they can't really have a full Asian family as you don't find that many in the dales.

Can't remember her blinkin' name now. But she had an affair with that lad who....ended up being Mike Baldwin's other son in Coronation St. Though when that chap went to Coronation St he ended up having an affair with Tina Dingle/Linda Sykes.

There were other minor characters of Asian extraction in the past, something to do with a Uni plot in the late 80's or early 90's if it rings any bells with anyone?

Yeah thats right one was called Jayesh Palmer and he had a thing with Rachel Hughes at one point.He also had a sister to though her name escapes me right now

Jackie Merrick was engaged to a nurse who was Asian in the 80's until he became all over possessive & she dumped him. This was of course before the infamous Kathy Bates came along.

Many years ago Joe Sugden went out with what was the first Asian lady in the soap I also believe her mother and father appeared
