Bill's ankle
On ITT last night they showed a pic of Bill's ankle and it looked really bad, and then Karen went on to say that the infection had spread and i have to say I'm a little concerned about him training, surely this will just make it worse

I'd love him to carry on, but in a way I almost hope he isn't going to, because I'd rather he got better

So does anyone know what would happen if he did have to drop out? Would they just give him the week off, or would no one go that week? Maybe if he can’t dance he will automatically get the 1 point from the judges and hope the public keep him in????

Hmm I dunno what'll happen to him, but I really think he should stop dancing and try to concentrate on his health. You should see the medical discussion we've been having about Bill's foot on the ITT thread... one very experienced nurse and two medical students think he should stop - sad as it would be.

Yeah I know, me too. It wasn't till KKaren mentioned it spreading up to his neck and arms yesterday that I started worrying. I think it might be becoming systemic rather than an isolated foot thing and while it would break my heart for any couple to have to pull out... the guy is unwell!

A lot can happen in 3 days, so here's hoping he gets better. I like Bill a lot better than I thought I was going to and I think Karen is a great dancer with a fab personality. Has anyone checked out her website? She has her wedding photos on it

I'm torn between really wanting him to dance, he's such a great part of the show, and really wanting him not to dance as he seems to be doing himself damage *sudders again thinking about that photo - nearly put me off my meatloaf*
I think it's been suggested in another thread that maybe he won't dance, but he'll get 1 point and rely on the public to vote him through (which they probably will do) and then see how he is next week. It would be horrible to loose any of them because of injury - but equally to loose anyone (possibly Will would be in most danger) because of a sympathy vote for Bill

Re the foot!
I'm a nurse (25yrs) and have to agree. he shouldn't be weight bearing on that, let alone dancing! The way it's tracking up the body, I doubt he'll be dancing on Saturday. You know, it's OK being brave etc ,but at the end of the day, your foot's for life not just SCD. he could permenantly harm not just the foot but his whole body. |

I think that the best thng for him to do, assuming that he doesn't have a miraculous recovery by Satudray, would be for him to, as other people have mentioned, miss this Saturday and automatically get one point, and then wait and see how things go (assuming the public vote him through, which they probably will).
As much as I don't want to lose any of the couples to injuries, especially not my favourites, from what's been said it looks like he'd be ding himself serious damage if he doesn't rest that ankle, even for a bit. |

After seeing Bill practising for the coming show on Saturday, I'm beginning to think we've all been led up the garden path a little by the powers-that-be at the BBC ... in trying to milk the situation for all it's worth, I think they might have over-egged the pudding somewhat.
What I'm trying to say is that if his cellulitis is confined to the actual ankle area, it becomes a small and localised problem - painful but eminently 'treatable ... what set me (and my medical and nursing colleagues) off on the 'he shouldn't be dancing' track was the information which was given out that the problem is ascending to all parts of his body and threatening to become systemic rather than localised. I feel the red mist rising now ... if it has been over- sensationally reported to generate the maximum sympathy vote, then I fell for it .. hook, line, sinker and copy of 'Angling Today' .... and Aida doesn't like being tricked. |

It seems genuine to me. I kind of wasn't sure until Karen came on yesterday, but I am now. I'm no medical professional, but that looked nasty.

*screeches up on thread with ambulance that she has now borrowed for 24 hours*
I have been trying to find Bill all day and put him in this and take him for some treatment as you guys on here, with nursing experience, have got me all worried,....but I cannot find him! ![]() But he can't half move for someone with a dodgy foot..I still haven't found him! *dives into ambulance, does dodgy three point turn, and drives off in search of Bill, sirens wailing* |

And no surprise here that I'd rush to defend Bill and Karen !! But I have been reading the medical discussion with interest (Yes, I too have a glittering career in the NHS - not!). My first reaction was as you suggested - that he has had an allergic reaction to the antibiotics which is common. If he had a septicaemia he would be too ill to even consider continuing. Karen, as a layperson, may have described it as spreading but the allergic rash and the initial redness of his ankle which was also allergic in nature and again, as you suggest, highly likely due to the dreaded elastoplast would have looked quite similar. Perhaps her choice of words were unfortunate. And if anyone's talking it up it's us lot She said that what B wanted most was no more attention on his injury but try telling that to ITT! They need stories daily for ITT and they have also focussed on Colin and James in this regard. On Sunday's Breakfast program Bill really played the injury down, said it was fine, was visibly embarrassed when Kate was discussing it and tried (unsuccessfully) to change the topic. I'm not convinced he will go on - he's performing on Children in Need on Friday night as well. |

*happyfeet jumps into the road in front of the ambulance, and as it screeches to a halt, jumps into the back for a chat*
I agree Bill didn't want to make a thing of it, but from my point of view I just wanted to look into the cellulitis/allergic reaction thing for my own and other's education. I hope it hasn't generated a sympathy vote - just more well-informed people it has, also thrown up the wonderful side-effect of discovering some lovely, well-informed, experienced professionals (I do NOT include myself *shudders*) and hopefully been a bit enlightening as a debate.Aida is right that based on the footage tonight - Bill seems ok? But I don't care if we were misled - I'm just glad it isn't serious - we shall see anyway. I do feel that it may have been a misunderstangin and since we heard it from Karen and not some random BBC source; I'd say the motives were probably quite innocent. Now girly-girls... I reckon we should drive this ol' hunk'a'ambulance to Will's house, since he has a bit of fictional experience and then head to the ITT studio to catch Bill and Claudi tomorrow... whaddya reckon??

*makes room for happyfeet on front seat* I know where he lives - will that help? Hmmm...that actually sounds a bit like stalker talk Oh well, this is an emergency!
