To leave on or switch to standby?

With the hard drive recording a 2 hour buffer continuously when the 9200T is turned on I thought it would be best switching off the box to standby at night. But then i thought about my PC at work and how our IT guy advised it is best to leave it on, rather than turning it on and off!!

What is best for gaining the longest life out of the hard drive and the 9200T?

If they didnt give you a reason (hense your question) its probably because your company wouldnt be able to remotely manage the estate if machines were powered down.

Mine usually gets put into standby unless we forget. My Fusion also continuously records channels for chase play if its on unless I put it in standby.

Unless you have a problem with your machine which means it helps to have in on or wanting to keep the EPG from being lost there is no problem.

I'm not sure if it's the same as the PVR8000, I leave mine on a radio channel when I'm not watching as the radio is not buffered. Try rewinding a radio channel on the 9200 to see if it's the same.

It is worth leaving it on as I sometimes have a lock-up when booting up from stand-by to record.

Just tried it. Radio is buffered

Doesn't really apply to me, I've got an 8000 not a 9200. The first time it locked up was about a month ago. It's happened again a couple of time since so now I leave it on all the time on a radio channel. I suspect it's do do with the new EPG order as it started right after the reshuffle.

My suggestion would be to leave the machine on all the time. Due to necessity at work, I've left computers on for months with no problems. Once I started a powering cycle I've had all sorts of problems with unrecognised disks etc.

Leave it ON!

It wouldn't be because you left it on for months on end without ever putting it in standby or switching off?
Cheeky I know - sorry

Is there potential issue thats come up with the 9200t that means it best to avoid putting it in standby or switching it off at all?

Leaving PCs on is better because heating/cooling cycles cause expansion/contraction on the PCB which accelerates deterioration.

Hard disk running all the time is probably not a big issue, we use arrays of hard disks on 24/7 systems so the disks are running all the time, and these disks last for 5years+ in this use.

I would suggest putting the humax in standby every few days, even if only for a minute, just to 'reboot' it, as leaving on all the time may cause issues if there are any memory leaks etc in the software.
