Elysium
I have to agree that your feelings about Jonny's real methods and motivations, are the very same things which I question myself.
If his methods are indeed what some of us suspect, then I would feel that the show has been undermined by a scam artist. Like you said, the tactics and gameplans which they all use in the house are all part of the BB experience. But I find it unbelievable that the public actually pretend that everything is fine, and prefer to want themselves to believe that he's the "people's champion". It's all a matter of him, not deceiving the housemates, but deceiving the public. And if the public could see a con-man had just made mugs out of them, would they be cheering and feeling emotional for him for winning BB? Other programmes on television have been in big trouble for allowing professionals to slip through the net when apparently coming across as Joe Public. "Vanessa" was a show that caught a lot of flak. Other programmes have also had problems with ITC regulations. I suppose the public are not going to mind if they are duped or not, which is surprising. Everyone seems to like a winner on BB to come across as natural as possible. If You have someone whose participation has been one long deception, then I'm afraid I'm not going to be cheering. I know people get criticised for digging dirt on contestants, but I kind of like to see if their outside activities match up to how I'm seeing the housemate on screen. In this case with Jonny, I smell a rat. I'm not sure it's entirely his fault, as he was allowed to take part in the first place. As for my personal opinion of him in the house? Well you can throw all the last points I made out the window when it comes to how I see his actions on screen. His eyes and body movements just give him away completely to me. There are so many times when you can literally see him playing. His eyes are sometimes devoid of expression when he is in conversation with a housemate, and his words are saying something which would indicate that he cares about what's being discussesd. Crap acting basically. There's obviously plenty more things I could say, but I'll save 'em for now. But the main thing is....... his face. I just can't stand his f***ing face.

I agree with a lot of what Alrightmate and Elysium have to say on the subject of Jonny ..... but I disagree with the subject as to what annoys me most .... Its his girly giggle - especially when he is doing something 'naughty' My apologies people, just listen out for it -it will annoy you more and more each day ..... |

Re: Regulate against public manipulation, perhaps?
Quote:
Originally posted by Elysium What got me about Craig's win, was the fact that he used it as a means to an end, and in a way manipulated the public. If you remember Craig from BB1 .. I would not dispute for a moment that he was a genuine chap and deserving of the money.. but how much sympathy do you think he got from his family parading the poor down-syndrome girl out in the open when it looked like Craig might be evicted from the house? This *immediately* clicked with the public that he was the only right person to have the money for the good he would do. The thing was that after he came out and won the show it turned out the girl was going to get the NHS treatment they had been ‘suggesting’ she would not be getting anyway.. and the money was clear profit for Craig. His life changed to the tune of millionaire status (coming from his own-lips) on the space of “public-sympathy” .. I do so hope that we don’t go down this road again thinking that a jovial little man like Jonny is some heir apparent to the throne .. If this is the case and he gets away with it, then possibly new guidelines need to brought in to how far contestants can manipulate the public yet again. When the BB1 contestants entered the house, my fave until her eviction was Caggy. I thought she was a real scream. After she'd gone, I quite got to liking Craig, this was dispite the fact that outside of the house, his reasons for being in there were being publicised. What truly turned me right off Craig, right on the final day, was the fact that he said to Darren and Anna, that he would tell them why he was in there, which was contravening BB rules. He waited until Darren had left the house, and then couldn't wait to tell Anna why. I felt totally sick from that moment on, 'cos Anna had been quite happy all day until he told her, and he effectively ruined what ended up being her last hour and a half in the house. Anna effectively went into her shell, and barely said a word to him. I saw the Christmas Special later on that year, and to see the arrogance of him, shocked me. He came across as a thoroughly unlikable person, and I refuse to watch anything that he's in. I don't want to be manipulated into thinking that the HM's are something they're not. I want to see them for who they are, warts and all. |

I was completely unaware of that stuff about Craig. I knew about his friend who needed treatment, but I didn't realise his mercenary intentions of being a tv celeb.
Maybe the competitiveness of some contestants makes it impossible for the true underdog to shine through. Maybe the contestants are so desperate to win, it's going to be near impossible for the girl/boy next door to even get past the auditions, let alone get into the house. It's probably my own fault to have expectations that a "normal" person would win. I'll still enjoy BB in the future, but it looks like I'll have to get used to the fact that it's getting more and more of a wannabe show than it ever was before. I think that if it becomes more of an platform for professional celebrities than it is now, and more of the public are aware of that. Then I can see the public feeling more justified in hating housemates with a passion. If in the future if we all know that the contestants are going to extreme lengths to fool the public, we won't care about them having fun, We'll know that the japes and antics are from their own repertoire, so we'll just want to see the conflict and nothing else. It'll just become more gladitorial. I guess I have to accept that BB is less of a reality show, than something such as a live phone-in show, or televised sporting event. I'm wondering if the shows in other countries, who started a year before the U.K. are also becoming more like talent showcases. |

E4's ticker always seems to portray Jonny in a good light. Yesterday it was 'the cheeky chappie' and today, on the more news section about Jade's distress, it was 'kindly Jonny.'
I have felt for a while though that whoever writes this stuff is quite biased towards Jonny and doesn't treat all the other housemates in an even-handed manner. When refering to Tim or Jade for example, the inferences are there. On the highlight clip about Jade he reassures her that everybody likes her..is that being 2-faced? No, just kindly. (I have to admit though it is human nature to reassure some-one who is upset, I would do something similar, but probably not go as far as to say everyone liked her.) But then he goes on to say how would you feel if you had been nominated 3 times.......back to me me me again I see. So I can't really see any change in his public portrayal, but it makes me happy to think there might be a shift. I am not a Jonny (or PJ) HATER, but I don't think they are nice genuine people who deserve to win. |

Here we go, another Elysium Jonny bashing thread.
Why is it that everything he does and says is now twisted by the conspiracy theorists. Jonny is having fun = hes playing to the cameras Jonny is down = hes after sympathy Jonny is joining in the conversation = its always Jonny, Jonny, Jonny Jonny is letting the other person speak = hes 'interviewing' them Jonny is keeping his temper = he not himself, a fake Jonny is having a fun-fight = hes a violent woman-hater Jonny lives with his parents = hes a parasite maybe Elysium is just looking to hard for what he wants, and thinking 'thats close enough, that'll do' and using the most miniscule, petty reason for having a go. If Elysium does a similar hatchet job on another HM then maybe, just maybe, I'd take him/her seriously. After all hasn't another HM in the past few days made a racist joke and shown contempt for the disabled? Rather more deserving of a witch-hunt, imo. |

I think it shows what a farce BB3 is if Johnny wins - a guy who wasn't good enough to make it onto BB2! If he wins - just shows how poor BB3 has been. The blatant way C4 have promoted Jonny is disgusting.

Your kind of fireman / winner, certainly not mine!

Why is it that everything he does and says is now twisted by the conspiracy theorists. He goes on to mention the advice/warnings that had been given by friends and family [who know him best] for him to hide his ”violent” temper having witnessed his darker side. He informs both PJ and Kate that he had “let rip” in the diary room “shouting down” the late night female producer who was “Big Brother” for the evening. He followed this by a late “apology” for having upset the “poor girl..” – This is an admission of guilt after a violent string of abuse all because he had been warned (once again) about “influencing votes..” This is the man who said that he would like to “ kick the f*** out of the c***s” [fellow housemates] .. their only crime, to nominate him or criticise him. Channel 4’s own BB website has recently said that: “Jonny is certainly not all he seems to be.” “I’m a very bad tempered person outside, very bad tempered, and I said I was outspoken, and I always say what I think” “I was warned off everybody before I came here, don’t lose ya rag, don’t open ya mouth and fly off on one.. cos I’ve got a ****ing terrible temper. “ “I tells ya what, anyone wants te mess with me, I’ll fly off on one.. I will” “Its like Joanne says, calm down or you’ll have an heart attack early.” “I was told, don’t lose your rag, don’t do this, don’t do that..” Jonny deserves close scrutiny because he is the contestant that is most likely to walk away with the big prize. If you would like to live your life like an Ostrich then feel free to burry your head in the sand and ‘pretend’ that he’s a lovely “sort of the earth man” .. I really couldn’t care less one way or the other.. but as far as I and others are concerned he is nothing more than an actor who is masking his true identity from the public, and who readily accepts violence as a means to solving problems.. Your kind of firefighter/winner, perhaps.. certainly not mine! |

Still interesting how CH4 neglected to show him flying off the handle about Alex's comment on the Highlight show. Instead they opted to show Jade humiliating herself.

Perhaps, you should consider why so many people in the last days are changing their views. Do you watch BB (E4/ internet feeds) enough as to have an informed view? I mentioned in previous posts that given the bias in the CH4/web site coverage, it's understable that people will think he is a nice person, but the more you happen to see the program at other times, the more that Jonny will be under fire.maybe Elysium is just looking to hard for what he wants, and thinking 'thats close enough, that'll do' and using the most miniscule, petty reason for having a go. I don't find questionable if Elysium considers a kind of personal crusade to unmask a particular HM, if he found out that this HM is not quite what we all thought of him at first. There are too many people doing the same for other HM. |

Yes, Yes, Yes, Wholeheartedly agree. These are his own words after all, not some made up quotes from people with an axe to grind. Just as I abhor PJ for his views on women, I also find Jonny's character traits very worrying. I don't always agree with your posts but on this occasion you're spot on. |

Originally posted by ubermind If you took any notice of BBLB yesterday whilst Clair Sweeney was having her little “interview” with Dermot on all things Big Brother (championing Alex to win).. decided to offer some criticism towards “Jonny”; .. and what appeared to be for the ‘third’ time in recent shows was ‘immediately’ given a “look” from Dermot that suggested the notion she had previously been briefed NOT to offer criticism in Jonny’s direction and was overstepping the line.. followed by Dermot ‘quickly’ cutting her short. Now, this has happened to other housemates/celebrities and callers who have dared to offer a negative view on Jonny.. so make of it what you will... Still interesting how CH4 neglected to show him flying off the handle about Alex's comment on the Highlight show. Instead they opted to show Jade humiliating herself. We are well aware that the late night episodes of BB are often being edited in a style to make one person look bad and another good and likewise with the ‘ticker tape’ and the BB website.. but there is something worryingly sinister in the way that they only show one side to Jonny’s character and all aspects of other housemates. I smell something fishy… and I don’t just mean Spencers left-over socks..

What bugs me about Jonny is the way he's always looking to see which camera is on him. He's obsessed with trying to look good.

Jonny and the case of the cautious camera..

Originally posted by kmac In one of Jonny’s quieter moments a few days ago, he sneaked off to the bedroom one afternoon, there laying on his bed ‘blissfully’ looking at some of his family photos ["aweee, so sweet of him to think of his family"]. But it just so happened that he had placed the photos at a perfect angle for the camera directly behind to zoom in and a much ‘less comfortable’ angle for himself to hold and view them.. as though he was ‘acting/showing the public’ his caring warm side; a need to "point it out.." What bugs me about Jonny is the way he's always looking to see which camera is on him. He's obsessed with trying to look good. It may well have been a genuine moment, and had it been any other housemate I could have just believed that it was genuine and not staged.. unfortunately the more time the cameras spent on him the more you could argue that he was ‘aware ‘of his actions and the ‘sympathy’ value that it would translate into. He calculates his moments wisely .. and he plans how he can assure himself of some quality ‘edits’ in the late night show; he’s dismissed already E4 viewers as not having much of an influence on shows winner, and rightly so.. His aim is to ‘persuade’ the 10pm viewers that he’s the right man for millionaire status.. and he looks like he’s going to pull it off. |

come on elysium, get off the fence and tell us what you really think.
Don't get me wrong, if I could be bothered to vote, jonny wouldn't get my support, but the way some people get fixated by one person and won't let it rest borders on the hilarious |

Jonny wouldn't get my support, I can't believe he thought that no one would have an issue with him and thus not nominate him, niave? I don't think so, his droning on about "me family" coming all that way and being nominated 3 times. Good god Jonny deal with it, and accept he's not everyone's cup of tea. He must live in a cocoon up in the North East.

I think Jonny's manufactured persona began to wear thin in the last week or so. He is indeed losing popularity. The AOL poll has for the first time shown Kate to have overtaken him by 2% and moving further ahead. So far the AOL eviction poll has been uncannily accurate.
I share the view though that C4 "highlights" are showing him in a more positive light than these boards suggest. I also read AOL and other boards and he is getting increasingly unpopular because of this underlying sense that he is quite a sinister creep. I've already posted my view on his misogyny, which I feel has been confirmed since. I drew my conclusions from watching C4 only so goodness knows what the rest of you must be seeing. Tim, who is deeply unappetising as a character anyway was really being set up as eviction fodder last night. The amount of air time given to allow him to hang himself was amazing. |

[i] So, Elysium, your vendetta continues.“Jonny is certainly not all he seems to be.” . . “However, what is not immediately apparent is the way Jonny somehow manages to arrange things so he comes out on top.” One thing that interested me about the quotes above, is that they are the musings of one Mayreen Othen, a professional astrologer. I'm not commenting on anything else you have to say, you have your own views and you are quite entitled to them. It just surprises me that you quote these things as if they have been written by C4's own reporters. I'm no Jonny fan, I just find your obsessive rantings about Jonny, when all the housemates are obviously not being themselves, and your derision of people who support him, rather sad and worrying. Ah well - Kate to win hopefully! BTW - are you in marketing? Your knowledge of demographics, and the way you highlight certain words in your paragraphs to emphasise them and bring them immediately to the eye remind me so much of the junk mail that comes through the door each day! |
