How many guys?

I'm fairly new to this forum - but have posted on various other SCD ones in the past. Some have had more 'lesser spotteds', i.e male members, than others and I just wondered how many males there were on this board - those that post anyway.

I'm just interested to know whether you dance now or have done in the past. If you don't dance, has seeing the likes of Darren, Colin and James doing well encouraged you to perhaps start some lessons. What from a male perspective do you think is the best thing about SCD.

Go on tell us - please!! Oh and in case you're in any doubt I'm def female ...............

My username should give the fact that I'm of the masculine persuasion away.

I can't claim to be any sort of dancer; more like Dennis in that I do like dancing but can't really claim to be anything other than the "your dad at a wedding type".

To be honest, what I like most about SCD is that they take celebs & get them to do something completely new & different to anything they've ever done before.

Sure, the sight of quite gorgeous women in fairly skimpy costumes will always appeal to the majority of men; just like I'm sure there are large numers of women who enjoy oggling the male celebs & pros, but, beside that, I find it amazing just how great the peformances can be.

I don't think I'd be able to look at taking lessons, due to the nomadic existence I lead; through work, but I've certainly been grought to the point where I find I'm actually disappointed that I won't be able to make itback in time for the comp, in Blackpool, on Friday (Darren Bennet & Lilia Kopylova are appearing in it), even though tickets are, apparently, still available.

There are quite a few guys here.....if you check through the forum demographic thread..you will see the lovely guys who have dared post on there....but not sure if that is all of them.

The more men the better.

And I so did not mean that the way it has come out.

I've only been here for a week or so, and I've already discovered how much in the minority I am....I'm not only male, but I dance too!

To any would be dancing males out there, I'd really urge you to give it a go - you will never regret it (you may not like it, or continue with it, but you still won't regret it)

I've been dancing Modern Jive for around six years now, and I have the time of my life. Like most men (especially of my age - 42 now), I never believed I could dance. Now I can, it's a truely wonderful pastime, and I've met so many new friends. To give you some idea, where I live, I can go dancing any night of the week, and have a fantastic evening.

So go give it a go!!!

Yep, I'm male.

I've been watching SCD since the very beginning and love the format.
I agree with some of the comments elsewhere in this forum about an alternative presenter.
Bruce has contributed a lot to the success of the show but if he had to be replaced I would certainly hope that Anton replaces him.

My favourite female professional is Lilia (she's a doll).
My favourite male professional is Anton (just look at the last tango).
My favourite celebrity is Zoe (underneath that gentile, hopeless look there is a leopard roaring to go).

Don't really know why I've become so obsessed with the show ... maybe it's the fact that I'm Italian and even though I've been in the UK for the past 30 years there is still a lot of hot latin blood left in me.

Bruno? Is that you?

Seriously...welcome to the forum Glen, Hodman and Gojive.

Thanks Bohochick.

I know this is off subject, but I'm wondering if anyone can supply some info about the comp, in Blackpool, tomorrow evening. I've heard that Darren Bennet & Lilia will be competing, & that tickets will still be available on the door (on Darren & Lilia's own forum).

Problem is that even the comp organiser's site doesn't name the venue or start time (I've been told it's about 19:45).

If I can manage to get back up that way in time I'd be sorely tempted to cut across & see two of the SCD dancers live; just for comparisson with the TV show, but can't even start planning the, possible, trip.

If anyone can supply any further details it'd be very much appreciated.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I'm joining Gojive in the minority category, as I'm also a male who dances. As a result of watching SCD's first series, at the age of 24, I decided to take up Ballroom classes around October 2004. I'd never had the nerve to have a go before, but I loved watching SCD and seeing how the male professionals dance so smoothly and gracefully, yet maintaining a masculine presence.

I especially love the Latin dances as they suit my own dance style and probably because I'm shorter than Darren Bennett at 5 foot 6. What I lack in technique and experience, I hope to make up in terms of performance and enjoyment. It's been over a year since I started Ballroom dancing and I can't believe that at the beginning I struggled to practice the basic of cha cha. Now I've progressed to improver level and love putting together sequences. I also do Salsa now, so you can imagine how delighted I was to see a group Salsa in the works for this Saturday's SCD!

And as a little trivia, last week on Monday and Wednesday's editions of SCD: It Takes Two, the two female ballroom experts featured on the sofa(!) have been my dance teachers. One of them is my regular dance teacher, Margaret and the other is her mother, Anne who has coached professionals in the past. And Margaret's studio was used by Darren and Gloria for their practice sessions (Wish I'd met them though!).

I urge any guys who are thinking about taking up dancing to go ahead and do it. You've got nothing to lose!

Hi Estilolibre....lovely to meet you. Great post. I used to be really good friends when I was little, with a guy who was a top class ballroom dancer. Sadly I heard he died a few weeks ago, and his career was going really well. Sorry..didn't mean to put a downer on this thread...just that I love guys who can ballroom dance..that's all!

Glen..sorry, I don't know the answer to your question......But why don't you start it as a new thread so more people will see it who may not be looking here, as there are alot of knowledgeable people on this board when it comes to shows and venues, etc.

I hope someone can help you.

I've been a huge fan of SCD from the very first show (and often used to watch Come Dancing when it was on). I don't dance (not that gregarious and definitely not an extrovert), but I have always enjoyed watching it (not just ballroom/latin either).

I love SCD because it manages to combine a serious competition/skill (no need to flatter people a la X factor etc.) with a lot of fun/glamour etc.

Also, most of the professional dancers seems to be able to possess a serious talent without becoming aloof or big-headed; it's not often that you come across people who elicit so much respect, and that is a huge plus for the show.

Perhaps the relative lack of money in the sport has something to do with it, and the inability (unlike some high profile careers) to earn money from doing nothing.

Great Guys !!

Thanks for answering - it is really interesting to see and hear your take on SCD and dancing in general. It gives a more balanced view to threads as well when you all put your ideas and thoughts forward.

Like you Bohochick - I say the more men the better - so come on the rest of you, lets hear your stories too !!
