Spoilers too far in advance

what happened to the good old days when we would lookforward to next weeks tv mags came out to read what is going to happen in the soaps. It seems these days it's leaked into the media months in advance. Therefore it looses the shock factor. I used to love going to asda on a wendesday with my mum to do the weekly shop and see soap mags saying "SHOCKING PHIL GETS SHOT" and "SHARRON'S BACK!" and i'd see these a week before they happen and i'd be like wow cant wait. But now we find out so far in advance we expect it to long to actually be shocked when it airs. Will it go back to that or will it be constant spoiler land from now on. I think shock horror my new years resolution will be to avoid spoiler threads/sites at all costs.

Oh for example a few weeks ago there was a soap magazine showing phil and grant kissing peggy and above it saying "ello mum" and i looked at it and instead of that old feeling of "wow! amazing gotta by that mag to find out more" its a case of "oh that storylines happening the spoilers mentioned that a century ago" lol. do you all agree?

So you dont miss that feeling that we had in the days before weeks in advance spoilers. When you'd see the cover of a tv mag for next week and read the major storyline and think wow thats happening?

because i like to know what episode i am watching.. When it says like ''Den get's murdered'' i would have liked to know that it was coming. Plus i dont like suprises!

The situation wasn't really any different back in 2001 with those storylines you mentioned. I blame the internet.

It would be nice not to know sometimes, but they have benefits too. I like to know who is leaving/arriving for example.

I think spoilers have a place - in that they keep us interested and also sell copy. But the clever spoilers do all that without revealing too much.

For example, did anyone know beforehand that Marcus would double-cross Sam?

They managed to keep that one very quiet - and the episode was all the better for it, imo.

But as I've said many times before, I'm just as bad as the next person when it comes to spoilers. I just *can't* help myself and have to read them, as much as I think the episodes would be better without knowing.

I enjoy reading the spoilers (cos usually I'm the only person who then can tell people what's going to happen - I ask if they want to know. I don't just blab and ruin it for everyone). But I think I like not knowing what's going to happen too - I remember back to 2000 when I was just flicking through a TV mag on saturday afternoon and nearly fell off my chair when I read the caption: "Sonia Gives Birth!"... I remember telling my mum but she didn't believe me until she read it herself.

I come under that category of people who would much rather not know what's going to happen, but since the spoilers are there can't resist reading them and talking about them, and when there's a question mark about what actually will happen, discussing it ad infinitum with others.

Marcus's betrayal that was mentioned is a perfect example. I had no idea that was going to happen and it's impact was much better for that. Plus, things are sometimes discussed so much that the eventual scene when it happens is a complete let down. A small example of that is Sam's being the "intruder" in the Vic the other day!

So where will this all lead to? Will we one day have complete copies of the script along with dozens of stills from each show months in advance??
