"Rig Brother" - from Popbitch
According to Popbitch, some unnamed Mr Big is making a lot of money out of Big Brother 3.
According to their sources, the voting is being rigged on a massive scale by professional gamblers, using stolen mobiles and computerised sending of text messages. They reckon that this explains why there are so many votes this year (something like four million last week), and why all the favourites are being voted out. Bookies are said to have paid out £1.5million on Adele's exit last week. Popbitch claim that their source himself has benefited by several thousand pounds. Is this a scandalous lie or does it have a ring of truth? You decide. |

Could be some truth to that but sounds more like a conspiracy theory to me. I think the increased voting numbers go hand in hand with the larger viewing figures and more interest this year.
I think the bookies have just misjudged the public sentiment towards those nominated. I would have thought if there was credible evidence towards a massive betting scam the bookies would stop taking bets? |

Hmm, although some evictions were rather unexpected: Alison, Spencer ... they weren't to everyone's taste (mine included) but the departures of these 'favourites' surprised some. Even, dare I say it, Adele, so soon after everyone was baying for Jade's blood.
No, you're right, Dveron, it's probably a conspiracy theory. And that's not the CIA at my door - just the postman! |

wll, they would have to have rigged digital spy polls if that were true, because, if you look at all the previous poll results, they mirror the actual results very very closely. as did the RI:SE polls., and many many others.
I dont think its possible to rig so many independent polls..is it?. even on this forum Id say there were more 'adele out' posts than Jade out. |

Same thing happened in BB2 when betting was stopped when Bubble was up against Paul. |

Sounds like a poorly researched theory, even if the phones are stolen they are still wasting the money they would get by selling them on ready connected. anyway professional gamblers can make plenty of money without rigging the outcome so an outsider wins. i.e just buy some insider information. and if you really were going to fix the result it would be cheaper to bribe some housemates after all they don't stand to win much in comparison.

What worried me about this was that bookies had reportedly taken large bets for Lee to be evicted BEFORE the nominations were announced on E4! (Sorry I can'r emember the source for this, it was probably the on-line Sun or Ch4BB site), but I remember ttuning in for the nominations announcement, and sure enough, Lee was up for eviction. I've looked at the betting sections ever since and note that betting has stopped early on all housemates weekly evictions since. I haven't seen anywhere you can bet on this weeks evictions since Monday

Lee was unpopular, both in & out of the house. He humilated his girlfriend on national TV. With two women. He was a s*** of the first order. For this reason he was a dead cert to be evicted, ( as later on was Sophie ) Cheers Rich |

BB is a poor bet for the bookies, those of us using this forum, can probably predict far better than the bookies who will be nominated/go each week. There are an awful lot of BB experts, compared to say those that can judge a horse race. The bookies got stung initially because they allowed to large a stake to be bet in a single transaction, slowing down the rate at which they could react and adjust the odds. They have restricted the size of stakes now, so the odds move much more quickly. Suspensions still occur as a matter of course if a large number of bets go down, not because of anything sinister, simply because a few people see the odds at the same time, word quickly spreads etc. If you read through the thread below for last Tuesday for instance, you'll see some bright mug suggest: Quote:
Originally posted by platelet I'm not part of any syndicate, I just watch more BB than the average bookie, and enjoy taking some money from them for a change.Worth sticking a tenner on Adele though, the 4 way split makes it much more unpredictable, with Kates fans drawn into the fray for the first time, and Jonny lovers likely to be bitter about Adeles treatment of him. http://forum.digitalspy.co.uk/board/...dele+bet+worth |

(I'm not doing much better now. ..I think I just work on wishful thinking!). 2. You've encouraged me to preview my posts before I submit them.

Much as I love Popbitch it isn't the most reliable of news sources. See the thread on BB rumours for examples.

Why don't the bookies just stop taking bets on it altogether?
