2 months ago was the fifth anniversary that the Slater family arrived in Albert Square. Over the five years they have been at the centre of some of the show's biggest storylines (Kat and Zoe, Little's Mo abuse etc.).

The Slaters arrived on the day of Ethel's funeral *sobs* and instantly became unpopular with viewers. As time went on we eventually came to love mousey Little Mo, brash Kat, broadshouldered Zoe, big-mouth Mo, cabbie Charlie and erm... Lynne. In 2004, we met Stacey, who like the family, was unpopular at first.

But from next year, none of the Slater sisters will be in the show and it looks like it'll be the end of an era. Do you think the writers should come up with new Slaters? Or do you think the sun should set on Slaters as we've known them?

Here, let's discuss the Slaters - should Belinda return? Will we ever get to meet her Neville? Should Zoe go down for Den's murder too? Should Charlie have reported Uncle Harry for abuse? And will Kat get back together with Alfie?

Belinda should return with Neville. I'd love that.

Harry's dead so can't be done for child abuse.

Zoe should be kept out of the whole murder thing

Kat should get back with Alfie and I believe they do.

I didn't know Stacey was unpopular at first. From what I remember people on here were singing her praises.

I know Harry's dead but before he left and abandoned Peggy, should Charlie have reported him instead of letting him go back to the Spain to run his bar? I always thought Harry didn't really pay for his crimes. Charlie just punched him and spat in his face...

I seem to remember seeing a thread which slagged Stacey and Lacey Turner off after her very first episode...

i like stacey.
she was a bit like kat at first and a little bit janine but shes cool now.
i really dont like kat anymore, how dare she accuse alfie of cheating on her, you did it yourself twice.
zoe must return and be punched and sent down for her smugness.
lil mo should be maureen instead, shes less winy.
lynne should return begging for gary but gary says NO!

Lacey Turner is arguably one of the best things in EE at the moment. So would definitely keep the remaining Slaters in if for no other reason than to provide a base/home life for Stacey. Not sure about introducing others.

I don't care about Lil Mo's character leaving but am gutted about Kat leaving. One of my all time favourite EE characters. Just hopes she gets a happy uplifting exit

kat didnt cheat twice on alfie there was a reason behind her sleeping with andy. going with little mo was a big no no though.

little mo shoudl be less whiny and grow up, she acts like a brat. i had hoped her and billy would have got back together, but it doesnt look like that will happen.

didnt like stacey at first, she was too much of a "fake" janine, but now i like her. keep stacey in it and get her better roles.

belinda should come back, without neville though.

Stacey has awesome potential. The character has so many facets and is (unusually for a teenage character) able to hold her own against any of the older characters. I would not be surprised if she has a showdown with Johnny in March.

She is not Kat, she is not Janine. She is Stacey, a totally unique character.

As of April 2006 the Slater household will likely consist of:

Stacey
Ruby
Big Mo
Charlie

Stacey and Ruby thus replace Kat and Little Mo, and give the family a different, and more flexible structure, as well as a completely new dynamic.

How do you know Ruby will be living at the slaters? Her father could easily afford to get her a place of her own or if something did happen to him she would inherit his money.

Well, we know something WILL happen to Johnny Allen. But yeah you are right, Ruby could inherit the money, but I doubt she would live on her own. Though who knows, eh?

It would be great if Ruby and Stacy lived in their own flat.

Johnny could be killed off, leaving Ruby to inherit all his money. Then, Ruby and Stacey decide to buy (not rent) a flat together - the nice one that Steve and Mel lived in! They could have the poshest place on the Square and live better than sour-faced Pauline and her floral decor! Just an idea!

You make assumptions here. Not every one loves these characters. I have only ever liked Zoe and Maureen.

I would like to see Belinda return full time.

Well I can't please everyone! Anyway, they are undoubtedly the most popular characters EE has ever had - evidence in the amount of big storylines involving them and the amount of awards one by actresses Jessie Wallace, Kacey Ainsworth and Michelle Ryan.

And 'Maureen'? OOOOOh, get you!

I think the Slaters have been a total asset to the show. I remember when they arrived, and people 'slated' them becuase they were unknown quantities. I feel between them they have tackled a lot of serious issues that affect woman in the UK. In lots of ways, between the sisters, they embodie a different element that every woman has; kat is brash and flaunts her sexuality when necesary, Little Mo is timid and has low self esteem at times, Zoe is fit and embodies the teenage years of lots of woman (getting burned, falling in love etc) and Lyn who was always looking for something more, but essentially just wanted to be loved.

yeah so in essence, I think the Slaters have been a definite asset.

Storylines such as Little Mo's abuse and Kat and Zoe are very high up on the list of best EE storylines. I remember back in February, UKGold had a countdown of the best storylines in EE's 20 years - Kat and Zoe won! They beat Sharongate, Den handing Angie the divorce papers, Who Shot Phil? etc.

Zoe: "You can't tell me what to do, you ain't my muvva!"
Kat: "Yes I Am!"

That moment will not only go down in EE history but in television history...

yes, was very emotional and well written. Tho to be honest, came out of nowhere once they ran out of slater storylines. Kat suddenyl felt this motherly urge, and it seemed a little weak in the early on screen inception.

Stacey is fab! Elaine Lordan was okay as Lynne, but quite irritating.
