I bloody hate Ian Beale. I mean, what is the point?

This whiny little toerag has been on the screens for so long!

And how did he get so many wives. Id probably put him into Room 101 if I went on an'all.

Ugh. Poor Jane. she's got more balls than her husband.

Are you going to boycott his cafe

Ian Beale is often petty but he is usually acting after he feels that he has been wronged. When did he actually initiate any spitefulness.

A dangerous dog bit him and caused him to have 5 stitches. He is entitled to have the matter taken to Court.

I don't hate him, I dislike him, but I think hes an interesting character, has a great past and I don't think the show would be the same with him around, just like Dot or Pauline.

I can;t stand the arrogant git. A lot of the stuff he's done this week (and of course in the past) has been pretty spiteful.
Having a go at his kids just because they didn't help him to make any money in the quiz was pretty out of order and now he's got rid of the arches he thinks he can be tough again by threatening Gus. God I hat the guy. Phil's return seems to have bought out the worst in him.

I love Ian, but thats because I've known him since he was a schoolboy back in the EE early days - and over 20 years I've watched him grow into the man he is now - going through the Cindy years, being there at the birth of his kids, the death of his father & gran - so Ian is very important to EastEnders. I agree he can be annoying and a moaner, but thats his character - hopefully he might cheer up abit one day!

No I don't hate Ian. In fact I feel sorry for him at the moment as he's undergoing a complete character destruction!

I'm glad he made the decision to let Phil have the Arches because there are more important things in life. First sensible thing he's done in ages.

And I'm sure he will have a change of heart about Wellard - he usually does recognize when he's being really mean and capitulates.

It's Phil Mitchell that's really getting on my nerves. Hasn't he got anything better to do than walk around intimidating Ian Beale?

I hope my TV boyfriend Grunt kills him.

Yes but he knows that Wellard has been living peacefully (not at all dangerous) in the square for a long time now and has never attacked anybody. He also stood on his tail as gus said and tool food away from him that he wanted. My dog is not dangerous at all but I would never grab food from him like Ian did and then turn my back. He deserved to be bit in the bum.

Well there was the time, many years back, when he interfered with the brakes on Wicksy's van, presumably in the hope that Wicksy might have a nasty accident? Fortunately, like most things Ian does, his plan went wrong!

He's horrible. I can't imagine someone as warm hearted and fiesty as Jane being remotely interested in the snivelling, mean spirited little twonk.

I can't quite work out how the writers are suggesting we should be feeling towards Ian at the moment - is he supposed to be a hate figure, or someone we should be feeling sorry for?
Every 5 minutes his character seems to change (and that was just in last night's episode!)

Can't say I hate Ian but I dislike h im intensely especially when he has that smug "I'm better than you are" look on his face.

He obviously loves his family but, again, it always seems to be oneupmanship even where they are concerned.

Ian is EEs version of Ken Barlow...well, not quite, cos he's got a nasty streak whereas Ken is a bit placid, but some comparisons - been in the show forever, pretty boring character, several wives/relationships, pillar of the community, no chance of him ever being written out!

I like Ian Beale, he has enough different sides to his character to make and keep him an interesting figure to watch. I must admit i'm not particuarly fond of the 'weasley' Ian, but then they seem to bring that side of him to light for a particular storyline. cough*Mitchells*cough
I have developed a soft spot for the relationship that has developed between Ian and Jane and I totally disagree with the poster that has said Jane would never be interested in him. I think with Jane she has no hidden agendas where Ian is concerned, she knows what he can be like and accepts him for who he is and it's is the same for Ian. IMO they are very well matched and i'd like to see at least one couple's relationship develop and be consistant to the characters they once were. Sometimes TPTB over step the mark and the characters personality is switched to support the storyline at hand, but so far with Ian and Jane they have always brought them back to what they have evolved into during the time they have been together.
Ian must have done something right to remain in the soap for the past 20 years and IMO EastEnders wouldn't be the same without him. I've got to say though his storylines always seem to get people talking whether it be good or bad, just check out the last weeks episode review threads. So that just goes to show EE needs someone like Adam in the programme and to give credit where credits due he plays the role of Ian to perfection, his consistant acting approach to Ian's different dimentions is totally applaudable.

So to answer the question 'No I don't hate Ian'.

There have been many occasions where we have felt sorry for Ian - the Cindy years, going bankrupt, Phil shoving his head down the toilet etc. And there have been times when we absolutely hate him. In my opinion, the worst thing he has ever done was lie to Mel that Lucy had cancer, so she would be guilted into marrying him. Then there's the smug grins and and his bitterness. Unfortunately, the bad qualities outweigh the good ones and so Ian is hated more times than he is liked...

Im afraid I cannot feel any sympathy for Ian Beale. He is one of the most irritating soap characters of all time.

Oh yes, that was funny. Mel confessed to sleeping with Steve just as they were to marry so that Ian would dump her or at least postpone things. But he said (in a panic), "I'll forgive you" and Mel said, "Noooooooo, you CAN'T!!!!" That was funny.

To me, I an is just there, I neither love him or hate him, but he can be entertaining at times. I think he is well matched with Jane, or rather she is a good match for him. Cindy was a complete selfish bitch, Laura was a doormat, but Jane doesn't suffer Ian gladly, she knows what he's like and tries to sort him out.
