I decided to move from 02 pay & go to Orange pay & go. I gave orange the pac no. o2 gave me and yesterday, the day of the transfer, nothing happened between 11am & 4pm. My o2 simcard went off, and my orange stayed on the tempoary number.

I rang them at 4 pm yesterday, and the number transfer department told me to turn my phone off for 2 hours and then it should be all sorted. I will get a sim update, delete it, turn the phone off and it will all be ready.

I left it off all night, turned the phone on this morning, and no sim update, and the tempoary number was still running! I rang Orange, and said I still had no sim update. The ported number was showing up on their system, and the tempoary had gone. They decided to get onto o2,and find out if the papers hadn't been moved over or something?

Rang me back on the number ported number 5 mins later and said " I am ringing you on the ported number, so it looks like it's all sorted".

Great!!! But I can only receive calls and texts from orange mobiles! Landlines,o2,vodafone,t-mobile all say " this number is not recognised, please try again later!! (texts fail). I rang Orange back and told them about this, and they said we will get onto o2 again and see whats up. We will ring you back in 10 mins. That was 6 hours ago!!!

Any idea's whats going on and why I didn't get a sim update? I'm getting ready for the inevitable " it must be your phone"

i work on cust serv at o2 contracts and can tell u that when a number is ported onto o2 from another network the last service to become fully active is sms and can take upto 24 hours before is working correctly, i cannot comment on orange but perhaps it is similar on their network with sms and voice calling.
just a thought.

Hi Digitalwolf,

I also have the same problem - ported from T-Mobile PAYG to Orange Contract on Wed between 11am & 4pm. Ported no. on Orange's system but was not recognised when I dialled it.

Got SIM update on the card yesterday morning and ported no. is recognised. However when I dialled the ported no. I sometimes got through to it but sometimes I couldn't and instead hear this message on my landline:

"This call cannot be completed as your account balance is too low. To top up purchase a 3 voucher and dial 444 from your 3 handset or .........."

Rang CS and Ported Dept. several times to get the problem sorted, but alas it's still the same this morning!!!

Do you have this problem on your phone?

I haven't tried the top up yet, but they don't have a clue whats going on. Orange blame o2 for not releasing the number, o2 blaming 3.

I have no credit but texts are getting through, all networks (except orange),including BT/Telewest land line say " Number has not been recognised, please try later!"

I haven't had a sim update yet!

It's not, I still have no voicemail, just the o2 lady saying "it's not been possible to connect your call" and it's hit and miss when people can get through to me.

Starting to get a bit peed off now

The porting process is a headache if network is not running upto speed and systems are slow then its takes longer

The no. is working fine over the weekend and hopefully all goes well during the week when the ported system is congested.

If anyone has any porting enquiries or to report a fault with a 'Number range such as 07891. The call the Orange number porting line on 0800-376-2285 which is open 7 days a week.

If people on landline networks other than BT are having difficulties calling mobiles with a new number range, you need to contact the following to raise a fault and get the network operator to allow access:

Telewest & NTL: 100 (CW operator assistance)
Wight Cable: 0800-070-6150 (Report a fault)
Vodafone: 191
Orange: 100
O2: 0113-272-2000 (And ask for network services)
T-Mobile: 150 or 0845-412-5000
Spectrum Interactive payphones: 0800-211-299
BT payphones: 0800-661-610
Infolines premier: 0800-132-912

Tesco Mobile customers should contact O2.

Hi peeps

I work for VF as an Account Manager.

The porting procedure can fail at the "new" network side of things.

If the SIM is not entered into the mobile number in time for the port, the port will fail and take another 24 hours. Therefore if you was moving from O2, they will release your number on the port date, however if your new network haven't updated their records correctly it will fail.

Had this happen to a few of my business customers now ! Very embarrasing.
