Hi all,

Thinking about ordering one of these beasts!

Would you experts mind answering the following queries?

Can you:

Re-order channels
Re-name channels
Surf "now and next" through all channels without changing the channel you are watching

I have heard that you can search for programs in the EPG with JAg's TAP - can you search your archive too?

How do you enter search terms without a keyboard?

Can you get a keyboard for the Toppy?!

How responsive is the channel change?

How robust is the box to interference in the signal? I get sporadic interference from my central heating, could this crash the box during a record?

How impressed are your mates when they first see what it can do?!!

Not as standard but I believe there is a TAP that can do it.

No but you can Sort your archive by Name so it shouldn't be too difficult to find what you are looking for.

You use the On Screen keyboard that pops up when you create a new Search. Also, if the program is in the EPG you can pick it as a Search and the name is automatically filled in.

Difficult to say. Do you already have a Freeview box? If so is it affected by this interference or is it just the picture on your TV.

Hi Captain,

Thanks for your detailed answers! I currently have an i-player, and each time the thermostat in my central heating trips, I get a small amount of "digital interference" - blockiness, slight jerk in sound. How well does the toppy handle mild interference like this?

Apart from this I get perfect reception on all MUXes.

The Toppy seems like the PVR to get, especially as i-players are going for 70quid on e-bay, to offset the cost!

The only decision I still need to make is silver or black?!

Occasionally I get bits of interference on live or recorded programs but nothing that's caused me too lose a recording.

Cheers, now which looks cooler, silver or black?

Oh, damn it, silver will do - it's in stock in ED - I'll have the bad boy by next week if all goes well!

I think this is more down to the co-ax that connects your aerial to the Toppy. With poor shielding (and/or running in close proximity to heating controllers, boilers, light switches etc) the co-ax will pick this up. Get decent satellite quality co-ax if your current cabling is old or of poor quality.

Does the black run hotter than the silver?

I do not have a silver toppy so cant really compare it with the panther which incidentally sitting on top the satellite receiver, it was never 'hot' not even during the hot spell (you will be asking if there was a hot spell!) this summer. It is quite, very quite. I spoke Turbosat sometimes ago, they mentioned that they may be selling the Polar or Arctic white this X'mas. Ummmm choices!
