9200 or is there a greater beast in the pipeline

Folks,

Going to buy a 9200 for my parents this Xmas (if there is stock!). They are in their early 70's so hopefully can handle it easier than their current VCR.

Myself I have decided come end of Feb I am going to ditch Sky and buy a freeview PVR - phoned Sky and got 3 months 1/2 price until then. Can't get Sky+ as live in apartment block and think its not worth the money anymore anyway.

Will prob buy the 9200 but haven't heard anyone talking about the next greatest thing etc.

No rumours? can't understand why the likes of Sony, Toshiba etc aren't coming into this market - surely Sky+ has educated the public enough now that they understand what a PVR is - a large scale campaign from a big name to let people know there is a freeview PVR alternative would be a winner.

The big names with the exception of Panasonic, who maybe wish they had followed the crowd now, have shown little interest in developing freeview PVRs as the potential market is rather limited. Much more point in spending that money producing a a universal system such as a DVDR with HD and then adding in a digital tuner for selected markets.

Not sure I agree its limited.

At present I have Sky and Panny EH50 DVDR with HD (can't get Sky+ as live in an apartment block with shared dish).

Had the Panny for prob about 6 months now. I have only used the DVDR once. The rest of the time I just use the HD (every day).

I am able to use the EXT LINK option to get the Sky EPG to control recording - without that I reckon I wouldn't record half as much i.e. if I had to do old style time recording.

Therefore PVRs with good EPGs that allow multiple programs to be recorded are ideal for me. Also I now see freeview as a minimum for any TV I own and with current DVDR you get at most one freeview tuner.

I can't believe I am in the minority...
