MP3 Player advice
I'm thinking of getting an MP3 player, but need some advice.
The player I am thinking of getting is the one below; Click Here Can anyone tell me if this mp3 player would require me to purchase AA batterys when I want to use it. Or is it possible to plug this MP3 into a socket somehow and let it charge up? Many Thanks |

It looks similar to one I've got and that takes one AAA battery which lasts about 5-ish hours.

Well i would imagine the battery is rechargable and charges through the USB conneciton to your PC. Ask to be on the safe side.
I don't know much about MP3 players because i have never had one, but 512MB might not be that big a memory, do you know how many songs (roughly) that is. |

I believe 120 songs is the amount for 512MB. |

Currys is doing the 1GB model for £80.
OTOH, you could get a 1 GB Creative Zen Nano for the same price

Don't buy anything that doesn't have an easily changeable battery. Ever.

Don't buy it, we have these returned so frequently it is unbelievable that they got away with putting it on the market! I would advise another product if possible!

Can you recomend any products that are in the £60-£80 price range. Are Ipod Shuffles any good? |

Ipod shuffle doesnt have an LCD screen, and the host PC must be running at least Win2000.
Some of the small mp3 players have an in built battery which is charged from the USB socket of a computer (or car USB Utility socket adaptor). My one has this feature + a detachable battery unit - into which you slot in your normal AAA size battery. My unit (a Philips "key" 512Mb) has this design, plus LCD screen. Very small. You can take it on holiday with a full charge, and take extra external AAA batteries with you so it never runs out. If the external battery runs down, it switches automatically to the in built battery. Dave |

I had an iPod shuffle, and we have very few returned, if you don't mind not having a screen then it is the player for you. You can play in two modes, in Order (so basically Alphabetically, using Artist name to sort) and Random, where any track could be played, in a random order.
All the advantages of owning an iPod too, including the ability to use the iTunes Music store, so you can legally download music for a fair price and put it on the player in a flash. |

I wouldn't buy an I-pod shuffle - they are overpriced and you are purely paying for the I-pod branding. You could get another mp3 player with tons more features than the i-pod shuffle (e.g. an mp3 player which has a screen!). I recommend one of these wee beauties: link , I've got the I-bead 400 512mb and it has been a really great player. The battery life is long, the player uses a built-in lithium ion battery which immediatley starts charging when you put it into the USB port. The I-bead 400 supports a wide variety of formats - MP3, WMA, OGG and more. There is lots more information on the website.

It helps a lot if the player has a battery indicator. |

Basically it will charge from all USB 2.0 ports and some USB 1.0 ports.
Alternativly you could buy the Apple iPod Mains Charger (Around £25) which you can then charge from the wall, quite handy really as it means you do not have to boot up your computer every time you just want to charge it up. The iPod Shuffle even comes with a lanyard to hang round your neck, if thats the sort of thing you like... |
