Legend or not Bruce Forsyth's time is up! He really needs to be replaced next series. I've just had about enough of his mumblings & stupid corny tired old palladium jokes!

If the producers are so hung up on having some old timers/veteran entertainers to host this show ( oh & that Tess Daly can go away too ), then I for one would rather have -

Des O'Connor

There's no point. If we had Des O'Connor, then there'd inevitably be several new threads devoted to 'Des O'Connor - get rid of him/not funny/wooden' etc. I like him myself. You'll never please everyone. Bruce is fine, we can't change it - there's no reason to continue discussing it as there are still so many fans - the majority like him.

re Graham Norton, wasn't Dance Fever a live show? Thought it was?

I would love to see Claudia on the Saturday show with JLC (Harsh!) back for ITT.

How about Lional Blair instead of Brucie?
He's still a brilliant dancer.

Bruce has been great this series, much better than last year, in my opinion. He leavens the essential cheesiness of a group of highly decorated people cavorting merrily but seriously for the gaining of points and votes.

Keeping even a semblance of order on a show like SCD would tax a presenter half Brucie's age, he does an amazing job

Well, a week or two ago I would have enjoyed having a right go at the silly, sexist old chuffer, but having seen some of the 'replacements' suggested in this thread, I'd just as soon stick with him on the premise that it's better to have 'the devil you know'!

(I dunno what's wrong with me lately .. I think it's all this bl**dy pink .. I'll have to go off and gargle with lemon-juice and vinegar and try to pull myself together!)

I have been a big fan of Brucie for over 30 years, but I did find his constant interruption of the judges in the early programmes very irritating. Having seen the arguments between them lately though, I'm beginning to think he had the right idea!

I do find his jokes a bit cheesy sometimes, and there is regular groaning in our household at some of the things he comes out with, but I still think he's a star. Definitely the right man for the job.

As for the replacements suggested....Graeme Norton - are you kidding? No-one would get a look-in if he were presenting, and it'd become the Graeme Norton Show. I don't watch dance fever because he presents it. Des o'Conner - zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz Lionel Blair sounds the most sensible suggestion. But for me, Brucie is still the main man.

i agree brucie is a legend - a total legend
he is great doing SCD - he really encourages the dancers, celebrites and the audience against the judges is great
BUT his jokes are just appauling - they are terrible!!! im sorry yes he is a legend but i dont like his sense of humour!!!!lol

Ah, Graeme Norton- just about the only thing that could stop me from watching SCD. Honestly, if they ever let him present, I don't think I could force myself to watch it. I'd just have to miss the Saturday shows and watch ITT instead.

Also, was it just me, or did Bruce seem not too bad this week? I thought for the most part he was fairly innoffensive (and that's really what I'm looking for from a presenter- ultimately my main concern is the dancing, not them distracting me).

Honestly, Graham did a good job on Dance Fever, I'm not a fan at all, but he was low key and just let the judges and dancers get on with it.

However, since I first looked at this thread Bruce has got a lot better. Even the jokes have improved. But as Arlene has mysteriously decided to calm down -sweet as sugar last week wasn't she- probably been told to belt up a bit as she's turning people off, maybe he doesn't feel the need to interrupt so much.

Bruce is a very talented man. I would guess that early on in his career he realised that not having `matinee idol` looks meant that he would never be a heart throb ... and he wasn`t -(I`m old enough to remember him on Sunday Night at the London Palladium). However he is a very good pianist - can do some jazz - he is a trained dancer - and can work an audience as only someone with all those years of experience can. I even don`t mind the cheesy jokes (though some are painfully lame). The only thing that gets my goat is when he talks across the judges` comments. It really should be stopped and the producer could do something about that. It`s right that he`s nice and supportive to the dancers and he does that well - but the judges` comments need to be heard.

Aw come on...SCD without Brucie would be like the Catholic church without the Pope! Give the guy a break...he's stopped cutting the judges off to tell his jokes/do his tap routines, he appeals to all ages. Saturday night with Bruce again, it's just like the last 30 years never happened...brilliant!

yeh although his jokes make me want to be sick everywhere - it would be weird without brucie.....unless they had an absolute hottie presenting - i mean the guys have tess to look at so why cant we have a hot guy to look at....is that really too much to ask???!!!!

Bruce is very good though, but to be honest this series if he would stop the silly jokes and threatening 'to clear the place' i think more time could have been spent on the contestants, however he is not a fan of the stupidly long pauses (who staying etc), unlike tess who can wait a bit, although nothing in the league of kate thornton on waste factor. I hope Bruce stays on but if he should step down who? not graham to early evening. how about Terry Wogan again. or someone younger like dare I say it Bill. more to th point then change the thread to who would you like when bruce steps down.

I watched SDF and feared that it would be "Graeme Norton and others" and well amazed at how well he handled the whole thing. He didn't at all dominate proceedings at all and was VERY supportive of the competitors. Very sympathetic indeed. I was pleasantly surprised.

Have a look at an episode in the new series. You might be pleasantly surprised too.

Yes, Graham was great. Very professional. I really think that that sort of show might be his real forte, that's why I think he'd be good on SCD.

Don't knock people unless you've seen 'em!!

Bruce Forsyth is perfect for SCD. I know he fluffs his lines sometimes and his jokes can be corny, but he is perfect for the show and makes me laugh. There is no-one else I can think of that could present a live show so well, and he knows about dancing.

Brucie is brill!

Last night he was abysmal there was one awful bit when he tried to introduce cliff richard and everyone started too applaud then he shut the crowd up to try and reel of one of his "gags" which is obviously written for him he messed it up and then introduced cliff again its just rubbish presenting

I thought his likening Anton to himself was particularly insulting. After all, Anton is genuinely witty.

Sorry but the man is a blathering idiot. I deliberately record SCD so that I can fast forward through his self promoting twaddle & unfunny jokes. As for being a "trained dancer", there is no evidence that he trained as anything having entered "showbiz" at the age of 14;
"Forsyth made his television debut in 1939 as a child, singing and dancing on a talent show introduced by Jasmine Bligh. This was probably an episode of Come and Be Televised (BBC, 1939), broadcast from Radiolympia. He spent many years performing on stage, with little success, and travelled the UK working seven days a week, doing summer seasons, pantomimes and circuses, where he became renowned for his strong-man act."
Can't see how that's worth the £415000 (YES, £41,500 per show) that he receives for SCD !

I think there is a real difference in opinion between the viewing masses and the hardcore followers who occupy this forum. I love the enthusiasm in this forum and i'm not knocking it, but you lot are in the minority in treating the show as a dancing competition of any significance. Half the criticisms of Brucie appear to stem from an underlying frustration that he is diminishing the competition element of the show. However, i would argue that for the majority of viewers who, more accurately, view Strictly Come Dancing as a light enetertainment show - Brucie and all his waywardness is actually a big draw.

I keep feeling as though i have to repeat myself in sticking up for Brucie. I agree with you guys on the talking over the jidges part. The rest tho, i couldn't feel more differently. The man is brilliant at presenting the show.

Lastly, some people keep saying that Brucie needs to understand that he is not in fact the star of the show. Keep in mind, however, that we only have Strictly Come Dancing on our screens at the moment because the BBC wanted to find a vehicle through which they could return Brucie to the prime time stage. He wasn't an addition to the show. He was the starting point from which the whole thing was conceived.

Regardless, i don't think he hogs the limelight anyway. He just IS the name above the lights, so to speak.”

Very well spoken Trem Two!

In fact there are alot of superb posts on this thread! It lightens my heart to see so much support for Brucie! Presenting Live TV is exceptionally difficult at any age and I would concede that some of his gags these days are bad (although this is almost part of the SCD experience now (!)). So you might think that at 80 he makes an easy target for cynics and naysayers, who of course congregate on internet forums like bees around honey. So I am pleasantly surprised to see so much genuine support and affection here.

Bruce is an absolute legend in my eyes. He was, in his younger days, the absolute best I have ever seen when it came to working with the general public and he still retains some of that skill. But most importantly Bruce brings warmth and "a feel-good factor "to the show, which softens it's hard edge and makes it a more pleasant and less cruel experience than most other shows of this ilk.

Bruce is the last of the old masters. I find it sad in a way that todays young children could be the last generation to see such at work.
