Can anyone help me with this problem. When I play region 2 discs on my Proline DVD1000 DVD player everything is fine. But, when I play widescreen region 1 discs two extra black bars appear at both the bottom and top of the screen. The DVD plays fine, its just annoying that these bars appear. It also happens when I play full-screen region 1 discs.
Please has anyone got any info as to how I can stop these extra bars appearing?.

Is it extra bars or just bigger bars? If its the latter, its probably just that your region one discs are in a very wide ratio ie 2.35:1 whereas perhaps the region 2 discs are 1.75:1?

Its a good suggestion but these bars seem to be caused by the television itself - a Thorn. The bars are extra and appear only when a region one disc is played.
