We can probably all think of many reasons why we didn't, couldn't or wouldn't, ever, think of applying to be on BB, so what can possibly motivate so many people to try?
Focus on the current crop of HMs.
Fame: If you're a wannabee, the producers should have weeded you out during the oh-so-rigourous selection process. However, maybe you're already semi-famous and want to raise your profile - Alex, Jonny and Kate?
Either way, you shouldn't be on there. We dont want to watch people playing to the cameras to get themselves 'on TV' when they come out. We dont want it and the producers dont either.
Fortune: £70,000 - not a lot of money by todays standards, a tidy sum for a new car, nice holiday, deposit on a house - Jade, Lynne, Lee?
Generally though it's not enough to make you go through what you have to to try and win. The odds aren't to great either especially with no 2nd or 3rd place prizes (I think there should be, along with a much bigger prize - may another thread?).
Other: 'Bored', 'just split up', 'dont like my job', 'at a crossroads', 'fancied a challenge', 'everyone says I be good on BB', 'just finished my degree' etc etc - all these reasons were heard at the auditions and many discounted as 'not the type of person we're looking for' for obvious reasons as they just dont stack up to be credible arguments to go through the BB process.
So just what has motivated the current HMs. I contest that the most plausible, considering the relatively small amount of cash to be won, must be 'I want to be famous', which is as sad an indictment on society today as I know.
