They were nominated with:

The OC
Big Brother
The X Factor

Petra Letang (Naomi) and Louisa Lytton (Ruby) accepted the award and controversially said they loved Corrie!! lol

As far as I know no phone voting or internet voting takes place you have to buy Smash Hits to vote with a form. I'm going back 3 years mind you.

im fed of people saying its because people voted 200 times and it's only teenagers that like eastenders, so older people cant buy magazines then? it is just so pathetic, i spet if emmerdale or corrie won then everybody only voted once, dont be such sour losers

Congrats to EE! I'm actually surprised, as it is a teen music mag that the OC or X Factor didn't win.

Good on EE. Nice to know the youth of today have some taste. - Steph

But it's SMASH HITS...who else is gonna buy it (and vote via the form!) but teenagers? LOL

They have won it every single year I can remember...I don't think other soaps (except Hollyoaks, which kind of proves the point more) get nominated.

Yes thats so true. But every time thats pointed out people on here naively deny it. Its a fact. Doesn't mean its a bad thing just the other soaps are aimed at and have an older audience.

No what it means is EastEnders is aimed at every audience and not just older viewers.

Actually no, . But Eastenders has a remit and part of that remit is to gage a teen demographic. In-fact its one of its highest priorities and was the cause of its initial problems a few years back because they were instructed to aim themselves at the teen demo which they felt the station were loosing.

They actually thought they were loosing their teen viewers to the internet and interactive games and became very concerned as teens are one of their core targets. Admittedly this has lessened but its still a major focus for the show. But now they realize what they did by isolating older viewers and are attempting to get them back.

Thats fact.

How is it fact? according to this Recent research shows that 22% of the EastEnders audience is under 24
34% are in the 25-45 age group. Over-65s make up just 18% of the audience.

I guess the fans of the other soaps are less concerned about them winning awards because they have been consistently good and the viewing patterns are pretty steady unlike the roller-coaster ride Eastenders has been on recently.

Perhaps you should look at the Coronation Street ratings of late then.

Actually I don't run under a rock and hide. The under 24's is a core target for the show.

Actually there was a wonderful meeting about mmmm 2 maybe 3 years ago to discuss how to increase them. The outcome was to have more 'teen' storylines, interactive games and more online games to keep them happy.

They look pretty steady to me. And no need to rely on bringing back everyone who is still alive from the glory days.

....and 26% (the second largest group) must presumably be in my age group 45-65??
Wonder why they don't mention us.
