I was visiting a Sunday Market early this afternoon and bought a copy of the DVD, "ABBA The Definitive Collection" for £4.

I've been watching it and, shock horror, am quite enjoying it.

Does this make me:-

a. Sad

b. trapped in a time warp

c. Past my sell-by date

d. All of the above.

Classic pop is what it is....

You'd be surprised at the number of people who have that in their collections. I don't have it but I do have a few mp3s kicking about. I was 4 when they won eurovision..... lol

None of them. You have good taste. ABBA were a great group.

So it's not something to be ashamed of?

I thought it would fall into the same cattegory as sheep mollesting, or some such activity.

It used to be very sad to listen to ABBA when I was younger.

These days ABBA are enjoying a renaissance.

I love their music and to get their DVD that cheap must be a good market where you live!

Nothing to be ashamed of at all. ABBA are probably the greatest 'pure' pop group ever to have exisited, and were extremely talented. And everyone (perhaps secretly) enjoys a sing-a-long to 'Dancing Queen'.

Playing through the DVD, I just watched the tracks "Does Your Mother Know" and "Voulez Vous".

I suddenly remembered why I used to watch ABBA back in the 70s.

Those girls were HOT!

There's nothing sad about liking ABBA... within limits!

I'm not so sure about naming yourself after a Star Trek character though.

Sorry, couldn't resist ... I like TNG and Captain Picard as much as the next Trekkie.

How dare you?

That's my real name!

Besides, it's not as bad as one of the other members, who is named after a Star Trek training scenario!

There has been such a lot of fuss recently about Take That, a group which sold 25million records. Good luck to them but will their music be as widely celebrated 20 years after their split? I don't think so. ABBA, on the other hand, have sold close on 400million records! Their musical, 'Mamma Mia!', is the world's most successful and so far around 24 million people have been to see it in the many countries in which it's running - that's a lot of bums on seats! Sad? With statistics like this, how on earth could you be? The only reason people are snooty about ABBA's achievements is because they were from Sweden, not Britain, and we don't like that - beating us at our own game, how humiliating!! So no, never sad. And the video for 'The Day Before You Came' is a masterpiece. #I must have left my house at eight because I always do...#

I think my favourite line has to be "Do you still recall the frightful night we crossed the rio grande? I can see it in your eyes how proud you were to fight for freedom in this land".

Pure genius!

Sorry for persistently taking this thread off topic, but you've got me stumped! Now I'm going to be checking everyone's names obsessively. Oh well, it serves me right!

Anyway, to get back on topic, I think ABBA were some of the finest purveyors of perfect pop tunes, perfectly sung, and you have every right to enjoy their Definitive Hits collection without a twinge of embarrassment.

To save you tearing your hair out, the member is "Kobyashimurux".

Not sure why there's an x at the end.

There's nothing wrong with listening/watching Abba, just make sure you lock your door and draw the curtains when you do it & don't go telling anyone cos you might get carted away!

Only joking! Enjoy your Abba & don't feel bad about it.

Really!? Well I would never have recognised that, so thanks.

Maybe the 'x' is to make it look even more technical and futuristic.

Nothing wrong with ABBA!

Their harmonies are incredibly difficult to do covers of - fiendishly clever, and brilliant.

Back to basics pop - done really well.
