Is there any difference between these two phones apart from the music button and apparently larger memory capability? My contract is up for renewal and I'm torn between which of the two to go with

Hardware wise, there's really no difference. You get a larger memory card free with the w800i (512meg instead of 64) and the button on the front of the phone operates the musci player on the w800i and it's a shirtcut to common tasks on the k750i but other than that there's no real difference. Best bet is to go for the one you like the look of.

The music button on the K750i can be set to play Radio or Media Player, depending on your preference.

Hardware is exactly the same.

Software differences are that the media player is called walkman on the W800i and the W800i's firmware also allows the phone function to be switched off with the use of the walkman still possible (for use on planes if you can find a company that allows this, but not many do).

On the camera features they both have frames that can be used to make 'comedy' photos. These are different on the different handsets too.

There aren't any other differences that I can remember.

You can get either phone and flash the firmware to make it run as the other and also you can change the external casing on either to make it look like the other.

I have the K750i because I prefer the look of it. I got it free from O2 and then bought a 512 memory card (same as the W800i) for £30.

This is a common question and simple to answer, what you buy is down to what you prefer. Best thing to do is go in to the mobile shop and play with both of them to see what you think. I tried them both in the O2 shop and got the K750i.

As lalaland said but I would add...

The W800's media play also has a few more options than the K750, but the W800 doesn't have the 'activity menu'.

If you want the looks of the looks of the K750i and the software for the w800 you can flash the K750 with the W800 firmware.

What's the activity menu?

(just curious as I appear to have missed this)

Its the menu that you get when you press the button directly above joystick. the one with shortcuts, Bookmarks & New events on it.

The My Shortcuts thingy, I thought they had one of those too.

I use mine for my torch mode which has come in handy a few times

Apparently it doesn't have the Acivity menu, you'd have thought it would have. I have mine set up for torch and the bluetooth remote thingy so I can lie in bed and remote control my PC

I checked my mates one tonight in the pub. It has the button in the same place as expected but pressing it just takes you to the walkman function the same as the side button does.

I showed him what my one did and we tried to get his to do the same. The daft thing is that I use mine quite often as a torch via the My Shortcut button in the middle. He seems to want it on his now

Not sure, I know that pressing up on my K750i put me in my media player but that I can change that to do anything on the menu. However the mini shortcut menu isn't available on the menu on mine so I can't assign this to a joystick move.

It may be different on the W800i, but I don't have his phone here to test it. To save me going to his house can someone else try it please?

On the D750i the activitiy button is replaced by T-Zones, but pushing the joystick up brings the activity menu up. I use mine for the torch too - handy to find the gate lock and door lock

i have a k750 from vodafone and was sick of all the vodafone live garbage plastered everywhere so i got it flashed with the w800 filmware! the walkman software is much much better, its just like using an iPod and it has a video studio where u can edit your videos, change the music and add text! it cost me £20 from a internet site (freefonefun)

i get to shortcuts on mine by pressing up, i can select flashlight from there!

Not actually tried that on the W800 myself, but according to the folks on Esato.com (who all seem to eat breathe and sleep sony ericsson) it's not the same thing.

You can do all that on the standard K750 software, it's just Vodafone's 'attempt' at ruining the phone that means you can't on theirs.

K750i has the video editor too.

As for flight mode, I am not aware of any UK companies that allow this on their flights at the moment, even with the phone feature turned off, I was reading about people having problems on another forum recently when flying.

British Airways allows phones to be used if the "Flight Mode" is enabled. Just not on Take-off or Landing

I got the W800i for Christmas, works fine and it's great, apart from having major problems trying to get on the Internet with the right settings.

I keep getting the network failure message with the WAP browser and there's no proper instructions in the handbook.

Anyone got a clue ?

1. Check that GPRS is active on your account

2. Run the Phone Setup wizard on the Sony Ericcson website http://www.sonyericsson.com/spg.jsp?...te=ps3&zone=ps
