mine is number 600, and was an ex-display model, so that's probably why its quite low.
i'm talking about the serial number displayed in the top-right corner of the screen when in the technical information screen.

Why? Does something make you think that Thomson ever changed the hardware design of the DHD4000?

Can't remember now exactly why, think it was because a lot of people were having problems with machines with serial numbers up in the 6000s. (Searching in the original Thomson thread should turn up the original motivation I guess) I don't think there was ever a suggestion that the hardware spec had changed though. Mine is obviously a pretty early one (though I didn't buy it particularly early, around September 04 I think) I've never had a YLD and very few other problems with it.
