What would you dance to?
Kelpy

In recognition of the other fabulously fun imagination-using threads on the forum, I thought I'd start another fluffy/sparkly one, because you can never have too many, IMO.

What song/piece of music would you dance to and why? It doesn't have to be with a particular person or even a particular dance, but you can add those elements if you wish.

Here's mine:

I would like to dance to 'You Raise Me Up' (as sung by Josh Groban preferably) at the very end of a Christmas Ball or something similar. I'd be wearing a dark red full-skirted ballgown but carrying my shoes and dancing in slow circles with my head resting on the shoulder of Mr. Du Beke. We don't speak, he just guides me gently around the room because I am tired and a little sleepy.

It's very sweet and romantic in my head, I listen to the song and this is what I see.

The song itself is wonderfully inspiring and beautiful, I simply adore it.

Yes! Finally Josh Groban is acknowledged for this song. I have a minor bee in my bonnet about this since Westlife haven't really reinterpreted the song at all and are only doing really well because the song is genius. I'm not a ballad fan, but it is a great song.

As for the fantasy choice... give me time... I'll think of something

por una cabeza, if that's not too obvious

I was thinking about this today (and now there is a thread about it). My suggestion is just for fun, please don't take it seriously, this is just the thought I had this monring.

I thought it'd be really funny to dance to something like Marylin Manson - just because it is a totally inappropriate type of music and I'd want to see what the reaction was.

Actually, that is quite an interesting thought, as that kind of music is about as far removed from classical ballroom stuff as you can get, really!

I'd like to think that it could be approached in quite an original, yet raunchy way - certainly involving plenty of black in the costumes!!!

Off the top of my head, I would love to dance to these songs performed by a live band and on a clear dance floor ...

Rumba

You're Beautiful (James Blunt) - As I think that it could provide some great choreography and that unrequited edge to the story would translate like magic onto the dancefloor.

Cha Cha Cha

Boogie Wonderland (Earth, Wind and Fire) - Perfect cha cha rhythm, uninhibited and fabulously funky. A wonderful feelgood seventies anthem that energises me whenever I hear it.

Foxtrot

As Time Goes By (Dooley Wilson) - Just because I love Casablanca and that both the song and the dance have such a stately elegance about them.

Quickstep

Come Fly with Me (Frank Sinatra) - I could imagine gliding along "starry-eyed" to this one.

That's all I can think of for now!

I would jitterbug/lindy to Glenn Miller's In the Mood - preferably with a GI on VE Day.

I like to Rumba to 'Breath Me' by Sia - even though I'm not sure it's a suitable tune for a Rumba, I'm just obsessed with the song at the moment (It was the track playing over the final scenes of Six Feet Under )

And I'd like to be whirled round in a Waltz, by Ian of course, to any damm tune he choose, with a Quickstep to 'Anything Goes' to finish the evening

Forgot to add, for the Waltz I'd need to break in and steal Lilia's Tango dress, although I'd need serious liposuction to get into it

I'd like to be whirled around to Michael Bublé singing "Sway"... not sure if it's a Cha Cha, or a Mambo, or what.. but it makes me want to dance,

I was thinking Sway would go with the Cha cha cha.

I'd dance the jive to Hey Ya! by Outkast, if that goes.

Having just caught the tail end of the Chaplin film biog last night, I sat listening to "Smile" as the credits rolled and thought, how much I'd love to dance to it. Probably a foxtrot although it's not a ballroom favourite.

I've Got You Under My Skin - as sung by Ella Fitzgerald - for proper dancing.

For, as mentioned by Kelpy, the sort of sleepy, loveliness that is required at the end of an evening's dancing:

Misty. again, Ella Fitzgerald.

Thank my mother. I always thought that Ella was quite good. Then I bought Ella Gold for my mother one year.

Then I pilfered it.

It's been in my room ever since

Ooooh, just thought of another good 'end of the night song'.

These Foolish Things.

I love that song...

In the last few weeks I am finding myself listening to music in a different way. I keep thinking what it would be like to dance to, and what sort of dance. Most times as I listen to the music there are a few SCD contestants having a little dance in my head.

I'm not sure what the point of this post I am making is, I just wondered if anyone else does the same thing.

I do sometimes, Shadow! The song I'd really like to dance to, and always have ever since I was a little girl, is "Now i'm Following You" by Madonna. It's from the 'I'm Breathless' album, which is mainly old-style swing-type numbers. It's a duet, and it's really very pretty. I think it would be a Quickstep, but I'm not sure - does anyone else know the song and have any suggestions?

Of course, having watched the demo last night, I think the American Smooth would go with it perfectly!

I love that song too gracie, though I would willingly dance to anything if James were to ask

A slow waltz could be Sunrise Sunset from Fiddler on the Roof - a beautiful piece of music - very emotional - or is that just me - probably actually an extremely bad idea as I would end up balling my eyes out, dripping tears on the dance floor which would cause my imaginary dancing partner to skid over resulting in an imaginary but nonetheless painful broken leg. So all in all this is a BAD IDEA

I would like to do a Fred and Ginger routine a la black & white films. Full orchestra no singers though. Pale green floaty dress because I'm ginger haired and I'd like to dance with Bruno
