It is probably saf eto assume that both Ena and Annie are dead by now. Elsie might be still alive, but she would have to live in Portugal unless she moved off screen.

All the actresses died years ago, so it is unlikely that they would refer to their deaths now.

No, they were never referred too. They had endings off screen, apart from Elsie who obviously didn't stay in touch.

I loved Elsie's exit, its one of my favs.

Bit of a shame really.

Maybe they could look into filling the gaps

Yes, what happened with Elsie's exit. Wasn't it a sort of 2 fingers up to the street type thing?

I could safely say they would be dead by now.

Wonder if Ena broke wind

Elsie left three times though, she was like the street Yoyo for a while. Which is better than being Bet Lynch in her early days as the Street Bicycle

Elsie went to Portugal as mentioned, an offer she couldn't refuse from an old boyfriend. As with most characters on leaving they seem to get forgotton about unless they went under less nice circumstances.

If I recall she didnt tell anyone apart from Alf she was going. She walked up the street and as she walked past each door a voice from the past would echo out. It was really good.

I would like to see their deaths confirmed in Corrie today - Ken Barlow could do some research on what happened to them and tell everyone. Or those that remember them, anyhow. Surely, Rita, Gail are a bit curious about Elsie?

Gail would be more curious but you have to remember this is like 21 years ago. Since then Gails life has changed completely. I have close friends from years back I lost touch with, sometimes I think about them but not to the extent I would go and look for them. Your own life takes over.

I would love to see someone like Ken or another long running character decide to write a book on the street. Find out when it was built and find out what happened to all the past residents. A few could come back to do interviews for the book, Maybe a 50th anniversary thing.

Only thing is that it mirrors Neighbours 20th anniversary plot a little so I doubt Corrie would do anything of the sort. They'll probably kill someone off for the 50th (One of the oldies, maybe Mike?)

It would be possible that Elsie could still be alive. She would be about 85 by now though I think.

Yes but since Pat Phoenix died in the early 80's I doubt they would say she's still alive.

I think it would be great if they did a big Neighbours style reunion for the big 5-0. It would be great to see all the old faces back.

Imagine it with Bet, Raquel, Curly, Hilda, Reg, Karen and a load of others. Who do you think would clash with the old faces. Maybe Cilla with Bet or Karen and Tracy again or imagine if Reg met Diggory

I'd like them to bring Hilda back with Eddie Yeats, but I don't think Jean would do it.

Wasn't it about 1986?

Isn't Pat Phoenix Tony Blair's stepmother-in-law?

Pat Phoenix died in 1987.

Actually, scratch that: you were right! It was 86. But, yep she was Cherie's step mother.

I believe there was a video released in 1987 called the 'Lives and Loves of Elsie Tanner'. It was a tribute to Pat Phoenix. In the video her daughter came to visit Emily were they spoke of her death and remembered her with old clips. But as usual what happens in the video doesn't seem to impact the regular programmes. For example why didnt Jack and Vera say to Deirdre they met Ray in Las Vegas?
I suppose Annie Walker could still be alive as her character was younger than the actress so she would be about 96 now. Ena would be about 107 so presume she is dead. Although a few years ago Ken tried to make contact with Billy Walker so must be presumed Aniie has died.
Im not sure why Coronation Street never mentioned what happened to these characters.
Perhaps they believe in creating abit of mystery and keeping the spirit of the characters alive after the actors have died.
Also in Crossroads I dont think they ever said Meg had died.

Violet Carson - September 1899 to December 1983
Pat Phoenix - April 1923 to September 1986
Doris Speed - August 1900 to November 1994

I think thats about right, not completely sure about Doris.

I love that these characters if not the actors sadly, are still alive in Corrie-land, same with Phylis and Percy who are both still alive somewhere in Weatherfield, maybe together at last!

And I'm still alive in Emmerdale continuity too, with my lovely wife Annie!

Is that an official Street position, Nancy?

You're both legendary characters - I hope you get the send-off you both deserve when the time comes.

(I swear I can hear a faint "Nay, Mister Watts" )
