I think that there's absolutely nothing sinister or manipulative going on here.

As far as I know, many programs that are transmitted live, have something like a seven minute lag.

This is usually to prevent the transmission of swearing.

I think that it's been like this for about ten years.

BB is a program that has a tendency to sometimes get emotional, so it just looks like they use the virtually live policy.

I don't think there's nothing wrong here, I thought it was common practice.
”

Then what's the point of Davina's catchphrase "You are live on Channel 4, please do not swear"? I thought that the phone lines closed just before the break, and the result was verified during it, to be announced when the show resumes.

Doesnt this mean that while we see 'phone lines are now closed' on the screen after about 5 mins into the programme, Davina is actually about to announce the result to the HMs? When are the results 'counted and verified'? It cant be during the break as aparently Davina has already announced the result by then.

Well then perhaps it's C4's way of raking in some last minute cash, AFTER the polls have "closed", wouldn't surprise me.

I suppose that if they did swear, then Ch4 would have to cut out some of the action / sound in the 10 minutes' they get ... obviously they's rather not have to do that.

Its just as confusing as the E4 live coverage. I have never understood why there if there is a 10-15 min delay (surely to blank out swearing, legal stuff blah blah) they still censor it when the HMs are discussing bread or how hot the pool is. It is so infuriating when you are watching a conversation and then it is censored for no reason.

p.s. sorry if people have already spoken about this loads of times - am still relatively new!

I don't care about the cock up as I am still celebrating seeing Pyjama having to do the walk of shame. My main concern was whether they would have to extend the width of the exit doors to allow his head to fit through.

Why did Davina not deflate his ego by telling him how massive the vote against him was? I'm sure she normally mentions the percentages and puts her own angle on why they have gone that way. Maybe she was scared of the reaction she would get from his crowd of neanderthal mates.
