Just to let you know I have in fact (Thursday last week) received a 7300

Very very impressed with facilities and picture quality

I found it a bit of a chore getting my head around all the bells and whistles available but after playing with it on and off managed to sort out most facilities now

Basically as any good engineer does I initially had a play But honestly with all the facilities available and not getting it to work initially as I expected I then ( as the manual suggested ) read the manual

So now I think I have a 7300 provisional licence must practice more to get full certification

Only down side so far spotted is lack of digital tuner built in

As before a most impressive box of tricks and works fine

Philips DVDR7300 seems to be finally in stock. Spoke with a retailer and they confirmed that they can deliver next day.

I got a DVDR7300h last week but am having issues with the time and date.
It has the latest firmware installed (PS6DPlus).
It doesn’t seem to automatically receive the time and date and if it is turned off for a few hours and then switched on again, the time is that of when it was switched off. It does not correct itself. I have checked the time setup and it is set to ‘auto’.

If you attempt to setup the time manually, while you are in setup, the machine seems to freeze the time so if you go into setup mode, set the time to 6:00, if you spend two minutes in setup mode when you exit, the time should be 6:02 but for some reason, it only sets the time when you exit setup mode. So if you have to go into Setup for any reason, the time will be out by the amount of time that you are in that mode which then means if you use Guide Plus, all of the recordings are late.

Have also phoned Philips and they don’t seem to have a clue what’s going on.

Has anyone else had problems like this?

sounds like battery (or condenser) issue

re auto setting: on my Philips 720 i have to tell it which channel to take the time from - in my case it's BBC1 - in any case, it will need to be able to recieve 'that' particular channel, and in my case it's BBC1 analogue - which in turn relies on analogue aerial reception (much like the Guide+ its self)

Starting getting to grips with it, one thing though does anybody know how to get up details of how much disc space is remaing on the HDD. I can't seem to find it anywhere!

Thanks for that. Do you know how long it should take the recorder to receive and update the time from a power-on? I used to have a DVDR3300h and when it was switched in it showed 0:00 and then updated to the correct time within 20 seconds. Should this be the same?

i would imagine it would update almost instantly - i would look at your analogue (aerial) signal reception - if you cant change which channel it gets the time from - it's likely to be using BBC1 analogue - check that you can recieve BBC1 teletext

re: HD space - my 720 displays this in the HD menu screen as a red and green progress bar running along the bottom - green bar showing what is temporarily used, red part shows protected files (semi-perminent usage)

Have any of you tried chipping it for multi-regions yet ?
I'm now completely ambivalent about this machine: I was all keyed up to get one, but your various experiences have rather put me off now.

Also how user-friendly is it for editing?

I got one last week no problems whatsoever. Well chuffed with it. Takes the same multiregion hack as the 7250h

Is it possible to transfer your MP3s to hard disk, create and arrange them into folders, make playlists, and arrange your TV recordings into folders?

Thinking of getting one of these, as I want the ease of use for recording freeview.

As it doesn't have a freeview tuner built in, will the EPG still work with an external freeview plugged into?

Thanks

you dont have folders as such and you cant record mp3 to hard drive

you can sort recordings in any particular order - alpha, record day, delete day, etc

Just to confuse the issue... the Philips DVDR7250 is about to burst forth this month (and remember how long the 7300 took to appear! - 5 months) which has:

a built in freeview decoder
only 160G as opposed to the 250G of disk of the 7300
no HDMI
but no Freeview EPG, just the Guideplus EPG for setting recording etc.
Manual up on Philips, price seems about same as 7300 - ie from about £362

Seems quite similar to upcoming Pioneer dvr540hxs in features and price. Little detail on this yet. But it can play DivX files (no XVID?), copy mp3 from CD to HD, has digital EPG as well as Guideplus (= Freeview EPG?)but seems can't pause TV when u are watching Freeview thru its own tuner bizarely!, sexy remote unlike previous button stuffed one for 530/630.

Hateful ain't it, all this info and no perfect product

I have had the 7300h now for a week or so now. I really don't like it. I had a 3300h for a few weeks and it was a far better unit with relation to ease of use. The only thing it was missing was Guide Plus and a larger hard disk and it also has a bug which I experienced in four different units.

In my opinion, the 7300h is awkward to use and not user friendly. As from my previous posts, I have had issues with the auto-time feature which for some reason started to work after the unit was powered on for 2days but I do not switch the unit off at night which I would prefer to do.

Recording from the time shift bar is awkward. It was easy on the 3300h.
I also recorded two programs from different channels on Monday night via Guide Plus and when I attempted to watch them last night, they had no sound. Don't quite know what went on there.
The recordings that I made last night seemed to work ok except that Guide Plus did not seem to change the channel for one of them even though it had started recording and the IR sensor is perfectly setup. I was not in the room so I’m not sure were it went wrong.

Also in Guide Plus, the source channels for terrestrial seem to keep reverting back to Tuner when the unit is taken out of standby mode even though I keep setting them to the Sky box alternatives.

I also noticed last night that Guide Plus was saying that it had not received an update even though it is setup to look at Sky 410 and in setup, it said that the data had been received that morning.

I have looked and cannot see a way of telling how much data is on the HDD. On the 3300h, it had a % number informing you how full the HDD was.

Maybe I just have another faulty unit but I am seriously considering returning it.

Hmmm, makes me quite glad (I think) I opted for the Pioneer months ago! 5 months is helluva wait for a machine clearly far from the perceived "perfection" punters expect these days....

Sounds like you need to upgrade your firmware to the latest version. Some issues concerning the time have been addressed

Turn on DVD player
Remove any disc from tray
Ensure tray is closed
Open HDD browser.
press Play,
Type in the following numbers
159 12 12 12 005 255,
(Numbers should appear in display while typing)
Press Play
Works with DVDR7300H/05

Editing is very easy on this model. Its perfect for editing out adverts.

On another topic I note now that when in guide plus it will switch the set top box automatically to the desired channel (NTL cable box in my case). This is a welcome fix over my previous DVD725H.

Hi,

I've got the DVDR7250H but the DVDR7300H hack doesn't appear to work.

Any ideas what it is?

Just a heads up for anyone who's got one of these, a new firmware version has been released by philips, which shows how much disc space is used!
