Has Coronation St mutated into a hybrid Crossroads?

My evidence:

The storylines are becoming so tedious, silly and without any sense of drama.

The comedy doesn't work.

The acting is really bad.

And now we have characters from Birmingham.

Crossroads is back!

I think the OP deserves more consideration than that.

And for what it's worth, I *loved* Crossroads, in all it's forms.

I'm not bashing Corrie at all. I love it! I just admire the way in which the new producers are trying their best to bring back the spirit of Crossroads.

One character who lived in Birmingham, who is in fact from the South East hardly means that Coronation Street has recruited Brummies in their drones!

Maybe so if they justified each of their sweeping statements with evidence

I loved Crossroads and I'm beginning to love Corrie more and more. My only problem with the show at the moment is the humour and the silly storylines that don't work. I am laughing at the bad acting rather than the intended funny storylines.

Ok. If you're so quick to say "who cares" then why even bring this up?

Thats not evidence. Its random thoughts you've gathered from various posts in hope of getting people to support your theory. Obviously appealing to the uneducated forum members?

I think you are getting too deep here methinks! I haven't read any other posts and yes, I was giving my own thoughts on the show. My evidence wasn't meant to be scientific... lol ! Why are you getting so uptight about Crossroads??

From what you've said there you could apply to any number of soaps, not just corrie. Does that mean that all other soaps are morphing into Corrie? I don't think so.

Your points, are too generalised to be able to respond to, but you can say that there's a definite sense of drama when the storyline is done properly. Think Sunita - she was amazing last night, and that's just one example.

The comedy does work - i do laugh when I watch it, although in all fairness I do prefer the more subtle humour, with the likes of Fred Elliot compared to Diggory or Molly.

I disagree with your comment about the acting being really bad. Ok, there are a couple of dodgy members in the cast, but by no means do they form the majority. It's like any place in the country where people work in that there are the shirkers, who do the bare minimum, but are fortunate enough to get carried by colleagues, that's all, nothing major. No way could you describe the acting standard in corrie as being "bad".

Its not evidence in the first place, scientific or not. I'm not getting too deep I'm simply pointing out what a pointless and uninformed thread this is. It almost borders on trolling.

If your going to make such sweeping statements about the show then to back them up with examples would help your argument. Otherwise you come across, as you have as trying to stir trouble or worse, a 15 year old girl

OK I take your point. Maybe a 15 year old girl could give some examples of the bad acting and poor storylines of late but I also think I am experienced enough to point out the defeciencies in the show too. I'm not trolling. I have watched Coronation St religiously for the past 2 and a half years. It is steadily getting worse. At the moment I am getting a kick out of the Crossroads connection.

I am lost! What is this Crossroads connection! Carol? The character??? The fact she is from Birmingham??

I'm going to reread this thread, obviously I have missed something!!

Steph

EDIT: Your evidence could be applied to any soap! Maybe Louise from Emerdale is taking Emmerdale in a Summer Bay direction......did Ruth in EE turn Albert Square into Take the High Road? If that is your case...I tried to see your point, but I cant!

Experienced enough in what?? If your trying to convince a forum of your theories then you'd want to be around a hell of a lot longer then 10 minutes in order to make those statements.

Granted you may not have been trolling but threads like this are incredibly frustrating because they take 5 seconds to start and constantly seem to have hidden agendas.

I watched corrie for the first time in ages yesterday, and everything seemed so behind the times!

like 'wow people are vegetarian these days' whatever next, it was like being in the 1970s, i really dont think people like Craigs grandad would be so appaled these days, maybe the odd comment or two...but not enough for 3 cringeworthy episodes.

and am i the onlyone who doesnt care for Dev or Sunitta, i have never liked either character, all their storylines have seemed contrived.

people may bash EE for being all about gangsters and being unrealistic, but in drama and script terms its been far ahead of corrie lately.

I don't have a hidden aganda or any theories. My original post was partly made in jest I have been reading the posts on this group for years. I still think that Corrie is sinking fast! Just my thoughts!
