Due to a variety of problems, I recently changed my Liteon 5045 to the Panasonic DMR-EH50 - What an improvement in quality & reliability !!!

One thing the Liteon had which was useful was an automatic chapter function during recording - it could be set for anything from 1 minute to 99 minutes. I've looked in the manual and through the on-screen menus but can't seem to find if there's a similar function with the Panny. I've also tried contacting Panasonic twice, but haven't received a response yet.

Any ideas ???

I've just got mine only yesterday and am struggling with a similar question.

I recorded onto the HDD and edited the chapters to how I wanted it - brilliant.

Went to transfer it (dubbing) to a DVD+R, when it was transfered (not finalised) the chapters that I had create had gone (chapters were now every 5 minutes) and I couldn't edit it. The only thing I could edit was the title and thumbnail display. All I wanted was a direct transfer from the HDD.

Any ideas what I did wrong. I did look to deselect a function such as "automatic chapters" but I couldn't find it.

Only had it 3 weeks so haven't had enough time to play around yet - mainly been using it to record to HDD. I transferred a couple of films to DVD-R and finalised the disk, but I hadn't created any chapters and haven't noticed if it created any automatically.

Well it did on the first programme I transfered last night (football). They were automatic chapters, every 5 minutes or so. It wasn't what I wanted though.

Out of interest, was it the Man U game you taped? I noticed that after I taped that game, it had automatically included the title, rather than me having to manually add it - almost as if there was some kind of EPG involved??

Yes, but I had to manually type in the title.

Just had a response from Panasonic Customer Support...

Only on a DVD-R disc, once it has been finalised, the DVD recorder will automatically create 5 minute intervals.

Not quite the answer I wanted (I was hoping that there was going to be a hidden menu option), but at least it's been clarified.

Its a little bit of a strange response, of course you cannot make any additional edits AFTER the disc has been finalised... Question is though, can you make any before it has been finalised.

Their response is a bit vague, but I interpreted it as meaning that it creates the 5 min chapters automatically at the time of the finalising?

For some reason the panny's won't save any manually inserted chapters. You can insert them anytime you like when recording but these will be lost (I think) when you eject the disc and certainly when you finalize the disc. This will then have 5 min chapters. Just a quirk of the machine or CD- format because you can do it with CD+. Yes it will auto insert title of prog recorded. This doesnt work with Sky though, don't know why.

It does save manually inserted chapters, if you have done the chapters in the HDD first, then dub it onto disc (note High speed mode only) the chapters will play as it was in the HDD.

I'm not sure about direct DVD recording.
