That really is a CRACKING price for a high quality DVDR.

Kind of makes you wonder why anyone would by a £100 "supermarket cheapy" when you can get that for only +£30

('course I guess the supermarket cheapies are on their way down too now - as low as ~£70)

But I know what I'd buy if I was in the market for a DVDR!

Local Comet (Milton Keynes) had a big stack as well - but priced at £149.99 - same price as Dixons last saturday (down from £179.99). I would expect everyone else's price to start coming down soon. Richer Sounds is selling them for £139.99. Perhaps you had a "manager's special"?

Comet have the ES20D freeview version as well at £200.

I am not sure if this is the right forum,but I'll try anyway.
I saw several ads for the Panasonic ES20D and they were all multi regional.
My local Comet had them in at the same price as online sellers so I bought one (£199.99). However when I tried to play a region 1 disc it said IT WAS NOT REGION 2 and wouldn't play it. So my question is, what is the procedure for making this drive multi regional.

Bear in mind the convenience of taking it back to Comet or wherever if it goes wrong, over an internet retailer!

Online sellers would have gone to the trouble of chipping it to make it multi-region. Currys would not go to the same hassle.
There aren't many remote hacks for a lot of Panasonic players (although a google may reveal one for the ES20D) , but you can get special DVDs from online companies that will hack the player for you.

I got one in Dixons though up for £149.99 but pointed out they were cheaper in Currys, they didn`t know but got it for £129.99, wonder if they dropped the price now in Dixons. Hi all,, is it possible to copy a tv show/film etc from a ram disk to a dvd-r/rw using a computer which will enable the disk to play on a standard dvd player.

Typical - of course we bought one three months ago for £230. Ah well, you win some, you lose some.

It is an excellent DVD-R however - provided you use decent quality discs. We tried some cheapo budget ones with it and probably wasted about 20 out of 50 on failed recordings. However, since switching to Philips DVD-Rs we've had no discs fail, so it's not a huge problem.

This price drop is quite general - £129.99 in Dixons now. Richer Sounds are £129.95. Best I have seen - £129.50 in John Lewis, with 2 year guarantee.

Make sure that they're multi-region. Richer Sounds wouldn't match the best price I'd found for the DMER-ES10 (£119.00) as these weren't multi-region.

giarc2006 - yes it is possible to copy from a RAM to a +/-R/RW but you'll need a ram compatible dvd drive to read the RAM disks. LG, Pioneer and Panasonic make them.
You can record from a pvr to a dvd recorder, but you'll have to via a scart lead (set to RGB for best quality if your dvd recorder can accept RGB).

The latest NEC DVD writers should also read DVD-RAM discs. But I have seen that some drives that are "DVD-RAM compatible" may not be able to read the exact format that the Panasonic recorders use. Do some research if you have problems or want to buy a new writer!

Richer Sounds instore prices are higher than on their website. I mentioned this to one of the assistants and was told to tell them the website prices! Currently they are no cheaper than the highstreet although, as you say, they are multiregion.

Went into a local branch of Powerhouse today and they had the ES10 at under £120, not sure how long this is on for. Doesn't someone like Comet price match and then a percentage discount of the price difference? Could be the cheapest prices yet if both stores are near each other...

Richersounds website does (or did before it went down) explain that with some prices you have to quote the web price to get it instore.

Just bought one of these from Comet yesterday- archived a few bits off my old humax 8000 and am v impressed with the quality- especially the 4hr setting- very very impressed. They also had reduced the 5x 4.7 gig dvd-ram discs as well to 9.99 so bought a pack, now to tx all the old stuff from video and get rid. Am off to a powerhouse today to check if the 119 is the case and will go back to Comet for a price match if there is such a deal.

Just out of interest, I had previously borrowed a goodmans 301 (can't remember the exact model number) to try to archive the stuff of the humax, and not only was the 4hr setting unusable (and realistically about comparable to the 8hr setting on the panasonic) but even when I did a 2hr recording and finalised the disc, it wouldn't play on my xbox. When I do the same with the panasonic the xbox plays them no problem- same disc brand as well.

laserenvy- if you've seen the es10 at 120 quid- go get it now- just been on the website and they have a big deal on the main dvd page saying "save 63 quid- dmres10 now 149" so it could possibly be a mistake/special offer for that branch. Oh btw where abouts are you in the country?

The signs did display the higher price that you mention. I know there are not that many stores around, I only know of the one I went to.

I may go back in today to see if there is an end date to this special price and whether it is specific to this store.

As for DVD Ram discs, I have seen a price of around £18 for 10 discs (panasonic) at another Comet store, which is obviously cheaper that two 5 disc packs. Although most times I go in they don't have any on the shelf, not suprised at this price, hopefully will get some later today from another store I know. Most stores just seem to have the 5 disc pack, just something to aware of.

The high street prices seem to have shot back up to £149.99 - certainly at John Lewis and Dixons (yesterday).

If we wait until after Xmas the prices will probably fall again?

Remember, you will have to mention the website price in their shops to get this lower price.

So far, it refuses to recognise any of the blank 8x Philips DVD-R media I insert.

After attempting to read the disc for a minute, it displays either 'No read' or 'No disc'

I'll try tomorrow with some other media

Edit - Cole Brothers (John Lewis) also has them in stock, at £130 for the Region 2 model.

I had some unbranded DVD-R which I got with my NEC DVD Dual-Layer drive from Scan Computers. It writes these fine. Also bought a pack of 50 Philips DVD-R (4.7GB, 120 min, 1-8x speed) from Staples and it writes those fine too

Only thing I'm not too impressed with is the time it takes to 'read' the discs after closing the drawer (approaching 1 min)
